FAMU Athletics Director John Eason submits letter of resignation Rory Sharrock, Tallahassee DemocratPublished 3:18 p.m. ET Oct. 21, 2019 | Updated 7:10 p.m. ET Oct. 21, 2019
John Eason's short tenure as Florida A&M athletics director could be coming to a close. Eason told the Democrat that he recently submitted his letter of resignation to FAMU President Larry Robinson. However, Eason said Robinson at that time did not accept his offer to resign. Eason, who remains on the job, was scheduled to meet with Robinson on Monday. Efforts to reach Robinson was unsuccessful. "I was concerned about the budget and what was going on," Eason said Sunday following FAMU football's 34-31 overtime win against North Carolina A&T. "The president and I agreed to talk. I don't like to let things sit. There are a lot of things people don't see that go into this job." I don't think he ever intended to take the job long term.

He's been crunching the numbers between their revenue and fund raising efforts vs their deficit for months and he knows the money is just not there. He's probably had enough.

The newspaper put out a story saying that he's leaving.
The major TV station here did an on-air story saying that Dr. Eason told them that he has not submitted his resignation, that he is not thinking about leaving and that he's still their AD.
Seems like no one outside of the President's Office knows what his status is.

With that being said, their administration better soon get it together but quick. Its only a matter of time before DeSantos and his legislative minions come knocking with a final past due notice on those unpaid deficits. That is going to be ugly.

Those minions are already on the sidewalk that leads to the pathway to the front door. Hopefully, they can be turned around again.

I see Rattlers are cutting to more Mens Programs..what is the number to stay D1 I know that they (FAMU Administration) attended a Board of Governors meeting today over in Gainesville and, supposedly, dropping programs and slicing up to $800,000 from the athletic budget immediately was on-the-table. It's now after 5:30 pm and I haven't heard anything about what went down.

YIKES!!! Why don't they just go ahead and drop to D2 already?? I give them 2 years at the outside before the move down is made. This all seems incredibly unsustainable. Cutting 800K? Taking commercial flights? Cutting up to 2 mens sports? I keep hearing FAM alumni declare they are not broke, but if the current Florida political system is set up as to where they can not charge student fees (or whatever odds they are up against) then they need to have a "come to Jesus moment" and deal with the hard realization that under the circumstances, they are not able to properly fund a D-1 program. I'm not trying to throw any shade. That's just what it is. Put your pride aside and do what's best for the student athletes and the institution. And if their alumni wants to fuss tell them they got one week to put up or shut up.

The Vision of the MEAC may be dimming. It's sad to see Great Schools struggle, NCCU, SCSU. I felt the same way about WSSU.
