Bethune-Cookman - 35 Norfolk State - 22
Bethune-Cookman holds off Norfolk State to stay undefeated in MEAC By Zach Dean Posted Oct 19, 2019 at 11:25 PM DAYTONA BEACH — Bethune-Cookman continued to build its impressive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference resume Saturday night against Norfolk State. Akevious Williams had 274 yards and three total touchdowns, and the B-CU defense had seven sacks — two on the final drive — as the ’Cats defeated the Spartans, 35-22. B-CU is now 6-1 for the first time since 2014, and remains undefeated (4-0) in conference play. “Total team effort,” said head coach Terry Sims. “We had all three phases playing well at times, but we still need all three phases playing well at the same time. Once we get that going we’ll be better.” The Wildcats were the better team most of the night, and led 25-14 after three quarters. However, the Spartans cut the lead to 3 with a touchdown to start the final period, and had the ball with two minutes left trailing 28-22. Merrimack deals Hornets fifth straight loss 30-21 Oct 19th, 2019 · by Tim Mastro
DOVER — Bryant Dallas held up his index finger and thumb just inches apart — the universal sign for “so close.” “We’re right there,” Dallas said. “The little things are killing us like penalties and personal fouls. We’re this close but we’re so far, we really got to dig deep and really want this.” The Delaware State football team suffered another loss as the Hornets fell to Merrimack 30-21 at home in a nonconference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets dropped to 1-6 overall. It was the fifth straight defeat for Delaware State. For the rest of the story:delawarestatenews.net/sport/merrimack-deals-hornets-fifth-straight-loss-30-21/ S. C. SC STATE FOOTBALL: Pough gets S.C. State record with 129th win CHRIS CLARK T&D Sports Editor Oct 19, 2019
ORANGEBURG - Buddy Pough is now the all-time winningest head football coach in South Carolina State University football history. Saturday's 24-10 win by Pough's Bulldogs against Morgan State for homecoming inside Oliver C. Dawson Stadium gave Pough a 129-73 overall record in his 18th season leading his alma mater. Pough and his college coach during his playing days at S.C. State, Willie Jeffries, were tied with 128 coaching wins apiece for the Bulldogs the past two weeks. "It's been a little bit long coming, but we finally made it here and I'm happy," Pough said after the win and after being presented with a game ball from Jeffries at midfield. "You don't replace Coach Jeffries, all we did was win another game. He is always the coach emeritus around here, and we all look up to him in a way that I don't know that I'll ever match up to. "I appreciate the opportunity to do this and I'm excited about continuing to be able to coach."
