I am just curious, what part of the week does the Coaches know which player will make the road trip. Does a list get posted in the locker room? How well does an upper class take it when a youngster get there spot? I bet the last 3 spots are the hardest to decide with injuries and opponents playing a factor.

The coaches gameplan and decide in the beginning of the week. Injuries, gameplan, and redshirt all play a part. typically if you are on the 2 deep roster of Offense, Defense, and special teams then you know you are traveling.
a list does not get posted in the locker room.
on the Thursday practice at the end coach will typically call out a list of some sort for the "travel guys" and the rest of the players go home
Upperclassmen getting benched no one wants to feel that but it does happen. And its happened this year. the players benched still give it all they have and do what they need to on and off the field which is very commendable.
Most times upperclassmen that are benched are not going to quit on their teammates

One more question if the battle for the last spots are even will location play a part. For example with FAMU will a Flordia guy on the team get a little nod over anyone else. I know you take your best players but when you get to final spots everybody is so close.

If the players are even and they play mostly special teams. sometimes yes the fla guy will get a chance to be closer to home
