Howard football parents accuse Ron Prince of verbal abuse, intimidationTo say the first five weeks of the 2019 football season have been rough for Howard University would be an understatement. HU has started the season 1-4, highlighted by a 79-0 loss in head coach Ron Prince’s first game against the University of Maryland. Friday news trickled out that Caylin Newton, last season’s MEAC Offensive Player of The Year, would be transferring. Newton confirmed that news on Tuesday along with three of his teammates. If that wasn’t enough, rumblings off the field of something even more troublesome have started to trickle out of D.C. HBCU Gameday has been contacted by several parents of Howard football players who accuse Prince of being verbally abusive and intimidating to the student-athletes. In separate conversations, parents accused Prince of sending injured players home without treatment and creating an atmosphere of intimidation within the program by the constant threat of loss of scholarships................. I'm just wondering who the interim is if they cave and let him go.
They might end up finding the right coach in the interim. It's happened before.

i watched the entire howard/bcu game on espn3 and i saw during timeouts prince literally "blasting" his players on the field in front of all the fans. so i think these accusations have some validity...

Frazier was the guy they probably should have tried to hire in the first place.

Sent from my SM-G950U using proboards Before I say this remember that I thought Prince was wrong man for the job from the get go because of his past history at K-state and with the Detroit Lions . Now with that said . How is what he did " blasting the players on the sideline in front of the fans" any different then what Broadway did running down the sidelines and confronting a player/Players that had messed up by getting in there face and blasting them ? Just asking .. LOL. This thing with Prince is a lot deeper than him Blasting a player or players on the sidelines because all coaches have done it at some point in there coaching careers right in front of the fans . There is a lot more to this Prince thing then what meets the eye. Because being truthful as long as a coach does not put his hands on an athlete's ( grabbing the face mask like in the old days) or cursing and calling damn degrading names . Some fan , parents and athletes need to get a grip . Because everyone that participated in athletics on this site has a story from their coaches in the past getting in there face on the sidelines which you Homeboys still rag on you about at class reunions or family gatherings . No one deserves to be abused verbally or physically . Back in the day we would just laugh at off and joke about it behind the coaches back but kids these days are too sensitive and can not handle adverse criticism and the parents are even worse . That is why I stopped coaching Pop Warner . I was the type of coach that never yelled at my players but they would gets three warnings if they were messing up on the field . When we hit 3 I would call them to the side with the other coaches and there parents or parents and inform them that they will sit the rest of the game because of their actions . The kids took it in stride because they new the rules but the parents they were off the chain . It is a funny thing to see a kid try to explain to the parents that they broke the they broke the rules LOL. (I know it was off topic ) but someone has stated that the have changed in coaching any type of verbal chastisement is prohibited at all levels .

Prince's problems go way beyond just the coach getting on players. His reputation for being very abrasive and then crossing into being abusive has followed him wherever he has landed - Kansas State, Rutgers, Virginia and even during his coaching stints in the NFL with the Indy, Detroit, and Jacksonville. No one is going to run through any walls for this guy.
Besides all that history, he still hasn't produced anything on the field of any positive note as a head coach and there is nothing in his current resume that would suggest to any disinterested party that he could or would ever be successful in building a winning program at Howard or anywhere else.

In addition the relationship you have with your players off the field matters. If players fell like you have their back probably gives the coach more latitude. When the players see how you treat others and dont support certain players you loose the team.
Coach B was rough but he had a relationship with all his guys and they knew first hand he wanted the best for them on & off the field.

Thank goodness these parents weren't around when I played football...they would have had my coach arrested and escorted off the field in handcuffs at halftime. Now I'm not condoning "abusing" players but if they can't handle some salty adult language, they may not be suited for contact sports. As long as the rough language doesn't get personal ("Your mother is a fill in the blank.") it's not really abusive. The fact that the players may have complained to their parents about the language is the biggest problem for the coach. It shows that the players may not support what the coach is trying to do. And if he's lost the players he may as well pack his bags and go to the next job.

The administration at Howard can investigate all they want It is to late because Prince has already Lost The Players and the Locker Room . The best thing Howards AD can do is to terminate Princess contract now before he does further damage to the program . If they keep Prince on the payroll the damage you will do to their program is unrecoverable .
