It's Norfolk State Week!
Norfolk State will not go down without a fight. I had this game circled as a potential challenge for us.

Yeah...it's not going to be easy. Regardless of their record, they have a lot of weapons. We've got to have that, "Kill a mosquito with an ax" mentality...and play a complete game.

I agree...the Spartans are hungry for success, but their defense is suspect though. On offense they seem to have some effective wrinkles in the red zone. If we can get pressure up the middle we should have no problems containing them. It’s gonna be a challenge, but I still expect us to win by at least 3 scores.

The main challenge for us will be us. If we can get our playbook in order with good mixture of pass and run, we will be fine. It will be a struggle if the OC doesn't get in a rhythm.

A&T hits road this week to play 'scary' Norfolk State By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com N.C. A&T All-America cornerback Mac McCain (left) runs with Delaware State's leading wide receiver Kwannah Kollie during Saturday's game. Woody Marshall/News & Record
GREENSBORO — The won-lost record makes Sam Washington nervous. Because A&T’s football coach is convinced it’s an illusion. Yes, Norfolk State is just 1-4 (0-1 MEAC), and, yes, No. 16 A&T (3-1, 1-0) will be a heavy favorite when the Aggies travel to Dick Price Stadium on Saturday. But the Spartans have played a tough schedule so far, and they’ve been competitive in three of their four losses. “Norfolk is one of those scary football teams,” Washington said today. “They’re playing very well offensively. Defensively, they’re having some issues. And I hope those issues continue against us.” Norfolk State comes in off a heartbreaking 30-28 loss at home against Florida A&M. The Spartans have also lost 24-21 at FBS Old Dominion, and they trailed FCS No. 7 Montana State by a touchdown at halftime in faraway Bozeman before coming apart in the second half and losing 56-21. “Honestly, I haven’t been able to put my thumb on why (Norfolk hasn’t won its close games). I really don’t know,” Washington said. “They’ve been in every ballgame they’ve played, but somehow the wheels have come off at some point and they’ve lost. Hopefully, we can loosen those wheels early and get’em off completely in the second half.” For the rest of the story:www.greensboro.com/sports/college/ncat/a-t-hits-road-this-week-to-play-scary-norfolk/article_334bad7a-d984-5b82-a968-751975faa742.html

This is an important game for Norfolk's team and coach and I expect them to play us tough. Their season is tanking again and a win against us could bail them out. But if we stay focused and play our game, we should win. But I don't expect a "break out" game for our offense. Just don't think the offensive coaches and players have figured it out yet. I don't think we've seen a complete game from our offense. They do just enough to win and I expect that in Norfolk.

That article makes Norfolk sound pretty scary. We might take one on the chin if we don't execute from start to finish.

I’m glad that this game is on-the-road where, historically, we seem to stay much more focused.
I am praying for a repeat performance of last year’s BCU game down in Daytona Beach. That was a heartless, straight-up EXECUTION of the Wildcats...and I loved it!!

...and we can’t get caught looking ahead to the FAMU and SC State Showdowns or GHOE, either. Gotta concentrate solely on defeating Sparta.

Do you all really expect Norfolk St to be able to stop our running game? We will dominate time of possession. I expect another dominate performance by our Aggies!

Our running game is one ingrown toenail away from tanking. Anything can happen so me personally, I ain't taking anything for granted.

When I read some of these comments, it just makes me chuckle. We have to be the worst 3 and 1 team on the planet. If it hadn't been for sheer luck and the ineptitude of our competition, we would be struggling just to win one game.
Hey folks, we are an HBCU that is operating on an anemic athletic budget, surrounded by a half dozen 900 pound football gorillas universities and we still find a way to win. You guys keep seeing the glass half-empty and I believe that as long as there's no gaping hole in the glass we will do just fine.

Truth be told:
Barely beat Elon at home on strength of 52 yard field goal. Got boat raced by Duke. Had to come from behind to be Charleston Southern with a first year coach. Played a DSU team under circumstances that would've had them losing to Dudley.
So while your sarcasm is humorous, it might actually not be far from truth. We really just don't know as of yet, hence the caution. After Morgan and FAMU last year, well, I'll leave that alone...

Any opposing Coach will have first priority to stop the run. Martin has and can single handily destroy pretty much anyone's run defense. Now I would be entirely remiss if did not mention the outstanding job by the 0-line and Coach Mattis. We should have a field day passing the ball. If you are dedicated to stopping the run... gap control & fill and fits are the name of the game. Typically you want see teams run blitz unless its 4th and 1 or a short 4th and goal. Carter should have time. Combine the defense selling out to stop the run with a little play action pass and its lights out. Short pass plays will go for big yards.
