A&T running back Jah-Maine Martin evolves into 'spark plug of the offense' By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.comGREENSBORO — The workload has increased, and that’s just fine with Jah-Maine Martin. Martin rushed for 299 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries in No. 17 N.C. A&T’s 27-21 victory at Charleston Southern on Saturday, a big night that earned him national honors as the STATS FCS offensive player of the week. It’s the third-most rushing yards in a single game in the 95 years A&T has played football, and the most since Tarik Cohen (now with the Chicago Bears) ran 22 times for 295 yards and three TDs in the 2015 Celebration Bowl. Maurice Hicks, another A&T tailback who like Cohen went on to the NFL, holds the top two spots on the Aggies’ all-time list. Hicks rushed for an FBS-record 437 yards on 34 carries at Morgan State in 2001, and he rolled up 353 yards against South Carolina State in 2000. “The running back,” Martin said moments after the game, “has to be the spark plug of the offense.” Martin has done that this season for A&T (2-1), which has an open date this week. The Aggies are off until Sept. 26, a made-for-TV Thursday night game at home against Delaware State. I saw BOTH them joints. 437 was so disappointing. First of all he really went over 500 but so many runs were called back it was a shame. Second of all as the game went on it was more and more apparent no matter how many yards he got we weren't going to win the game because the defense was completely confounded by what Morgan was doing.
Here, once Martin busted the first one I was fully confident we would win. The second one was the nail in the coffin. I don't know if he'll beat that yardage number this season but it won't be from lack of trying.
The offense is about to shift into high gear this season and Martin is a major reason why. I have a strong feeling on that. It'll be fun to revisit a certain thread by the end of the year.

i think korey banks is a "superstar" waiting to happen. just needs more time to develop better chemistry with our oc, carter, and our entire offense...

Martin helped to put the Charleston Southern game on ice last weekend:

I think Martin will break the 300 yard barrier this season and I think that he will hit the 200 yard mark multiple times this season. We in the Meac play now, and our O-line is good. Just watch

Look for 7 or 8 in the Box once MEAC play begins.Carter and Wide Outs should have open Season.Play action and RPO will open things up for the Offense.

Sent from my SM-G950U using proboards He already is a star receiver, his team and coaches have yet to realize it. He made an outstanding catch in the end zone against Elon. Sometimes he is open on a pass play but the qb is not looking to pass to him. As the season progress, the qb should be able to go from primary receiver to the secondary or tertiary receivers easily.

Film study and coaching will help him out.
Honestly, LR7 would probably be a great volunteer qb coach. That cat could make some reads, and we could probably use a little extra attention for the qbs in the qb room and it never hurts to have that on your resume.
Connell Maynor's career started as a volunteer qb coach with Fayetteville State while he played in the Arena League. Look at him now.
Speaking of film study and the topic at hand, that counter play has to be at the forefront of the mind of every team we play from here on out. I think Marin's probably seen his high yardage mark for this year. There have been far too many plays where he's slipped or there's been penetration before he could get going as well as big gains. I'd like to see the line get to the point where somebody besides Martin can consistently get four or five yards upfield as opposed to having to run sideways or get bottled up. I do believe Mattes will make it happen.

As far as the counter play... we'll have to adjust off of it. CSU actually adjusted in-game to the 3x1 formation on the 2nd TD run. The first TD... no one was home. There were multiple bodies on the 2nd level for the 2nd TD. Jah-Maine just pretty much beat their entire defense. That's football. And it's something that Coach Barnette will have to know what's coming and plan for. And... actually throwing the smoke route 3-4 times to Banks out of that formation will help significantly.

Yeah, but they gotta start finding a clean version to the music on their highlight vids. That is ultimately gonna limit the amount of people who share it.

What is is with young people and some of this stuff. Perhaps I was the same way at that age, but you are spot on. I can’t share this with all the people I’d like because of the language used...why limit yourself...clean it up young man?
