Scapegoat. Most schools have deficits, and she's only been in the permanent position one year.

This poor lady got the shaft just to show alums that FAMU was taking action. But I also don't think her experience fully prepared her to serve as CFO based on what I read when she was put into the position earlier. Dr. Robinson is a great interim... but as the permanent president, he is entrenched in the FAMU experience over the years and hasn't made the best decisions as always... Mangum was never given a true chance due to the misogyny of their board of trustees... same thing at Alabama State.

And it is my understanding that additional bombs have been dropped since this was released... ...we’ll see if it’s made public within the next 7 days. But until then, we shall wait and see what happens.

Thursday, June 13, 2019 Budget Director & Comptroller latest casualties in Division of Finance shake upFAMU Budget Director Ronica Mathis and Comptroller & Assistant Vice President Tiffany Holmes were relieved of their duties yesterday. Holmes is the wife of former FAMU football coach Earl Holmes. Archie Bouie, Vice President of Administrative and Financial Services will provide oversight of the Budget and Controller’s Office in the interim. Rumors of Mathis and Holmes impending departures have swirled around campus since Friday. Mathis was responsible for the operational management and administrative direction of the Budget Office. Her duties included formulating & administering the University's Annual Operating Budget and ensuring appropriate expenditure of all funds allocated. In recent years Mathis also managed the budget for the Athletic Department. Holmes' duties included ensuring that the University's financial records are accurate and in compliance with statements of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, FAMU BOT and Florida BOG policies, procedures and regulations; and pertinent State and Federal regulations. According to sources close to the situation, Ford’s sudden departure came after she was given the choice to either resign or be fired. The ultimatum came after what the university described late last evening “as a result of an audit follow-up that indicated auxiliary funds had been transferred to cover a shortfall in the athletic budget.” The transfer in question was in the between $1.5 million and $3 million dollars, FAMU BOT Chair Kelvin Lawson told told the BOG this morning. Anything over $1 million requires two signatures-- the president’s and the CFOs. Persons familiar with the matter said, that the transfer was made without the president’s signature. However, the same source indicated that email records may indicate otherwise. For the rest of the story: rattlernation.blogspot.com/

For the rest of the story: rattlernation.blogspot.com/ There is no way that the president did not know about the transfer of an amount that large . You would think that would be some type of oversight system to catch or question amounts of money that large .

man, too many times we find that our folks cannot be trusted to handle large amounts of money withouit being audited. historically, we've seen fraud scandals at hbcu's for as far as the eye can see. its a shame that we sometimes can't even trust our own folks.
we need "air tight" systems in place to make it virtually impossible for an administrator to misappropriate the school's revenue. time and time again our folk get caught with their hands in the cookie jar...

So this situation was created because FAMU really didn't have any other way to cover expenses generated by the Athletic Department. Their student athletics fee is just $13.97 and it's gonna a huge pain to get the Board of Governors to increase it.
It's only a misappropriation situation because of the BOG.

That entire Administration should be shown the door starting with the president !

It's not that it was illegal.
The Florida Board of Governors says is not permissible for state of Florida colleges and universities (state schools) to borrow AUX funds for athletics. The University of Central Florida has had very similar incidents like this, too, and several VPs have been fired and their president recently resigned.
Private schools in Florida can do as they see fit.
FAMU was told not to do this anymore and to repay those funds.
This is the deficit that has been in the news for several years.
