The North Carolina athletics department and grounds crew wasted no time in beginning the move from natural grass to artificial FieldTurf inside Kenan Stadium. UNC held it's 2019 commencement ceremony on Sunday in Kenan Stadium and grounds crews began work removing the natural grass as soon as Tuesday.
The move to FieldTurf is a Mack Brown decision and one of the major changes he wanted to make to the football program upon his return to Chapel Hill last November. Brown has stated weather concerns and the speed benefit that artificial turf provides as reasons for the change.
