Jayden Turner #4 , 6'5 SF from SW Guilford.
Someone on the staff needs to reach out to him asap. Literally watching him destroy Cox Mill with Duke Recuit Wendell Moore.
The Turner kid only has Division 2 offers at this moment and he is a former teammate of Langly.

Do you really believe nobody from A&T has talked to him?

I watched Jay'den live in the quarterfinal game for SW Guilford vs. Charlotte Catholic. He's talented and athletic... can shoot it.
My concern with Jay'den is the same one I had with Jaylen Alston from Eastern Guilford, who was arguably a better player coming out of high school. Alston was a similar 6-4 athlete playing the 4/5 spot in an uptempo style under Joe Spinks, similar to Guy Shavers at SW. Alston decommitted from S. Carolina St. and signed with Gardner-Webb... then announced in February that he's transferring to WSSU after not getting much burn at G-W. And I understand better why we didn't offer him.
The transition from a high school 4/5 to a D1 2/3 ain't a easy one. A coaching staff has to be convinced that type will be able do things at a higher level in college that he's not doing in high school. At a real 6-4, Jay'den will be a 2/3 at D1 level. He's definitely a willing defender/rebounder who plays with a high motor and he's been on a tear offensively. SW really turned it on after the Christian Martin head/neck injury, especially Jay'den. I definitely hope Martin pulls through OK.
Our coaching staff knows who Jay'den is. They just have to feel strong enough that Jay'den can make the position change effectively. And that's why he doesn't have a lot of offers. But they'll be coming after SW finishes off this state championship.

Even in small ball, wide open, shot at will offenses, that is one small lineup.

But what makes them go at state championship level is the Langley twins (signed with UNCG). When they transferred back after going to Wesleyan, that changed SW's outlook from being in the state playoffs to being a frontrunner for a state title. And the talent around a player also plays a bit of a role into recruiting a player as well. But our staff knows who Turner is, for sure.

This happens all the time people will see a dominate high scholar player at 6'4 to 6"6 playing the 4 spot and sometime center. 6'5 forward / post will not cut at any level of D1 basketball so then you have to evaluate if the kid has the handles / athleticism to play the 3. If they have been playing center in middle school then 4 spot in high school they will have spent time developing a low post skill set unfortunately that does not translate to D 1 basketball (due to height) but it works well at the D2 level.
Sometimes a undersized kids just wants to be a post as they have the strength but not D1 height and thats ok be a star at the D2 / D3 level other times a undersized kid can be poorly coached and someone should have told him along the way you need to be working on your ball handling skills to play the 3 spot.

To be fair... here are clips from the game. No question that Jay'den had a helluva game.

He needs a scholly.....damn the HS-College transition talk. This dude's legit. He's also taller than Jalen Alston from E. Guilford. He plays bigger than Alston, with respect to his style of play - not his talent. I can see him getting easy shots in the Aggie offense by feeding off of Kam. If anything, we need taller 2's and 3's. He's worth a scholarship, particularly if we don't have anyone else in the fold.....

I just think it's reasonable to debate what a coaching staff has to evaluate when offering a scholarship. By posting the clips, we can come to our own conclusions.

I hear ya dgso.....the SW Guilford/Cox Mill game was huge. Cox Mill was 2-time defending state champs. SW Guilford was a defending champion as well. This was a big game. It's easy to put up points against subpar competition....but to put up 29 points, 6 steals and 5 rebounds in such a big game.....in a neutral gym.....is big time.
BTW, thanks for posting the footage from the game.

If we have any sholly's we need to be tossing them at mid-court for all those guys. I think the team chemistry for SW Guilford is great much like I mentioned for Norfolk State this season. I won't say their talent is so much better but, the chemistry is off the charts in this game. And that's why they won by 30...

Man... not even worrying about that with Christian right now. They just brought him out of a induced coma from the fall Saturday. You just pray he comes through OK for right now.
