The only analogy i can come up with is from the Shark Tank.
Its the same when someone goes in there and asks for $100K for 10% stake in X company. They go through their spill and 2 sharks are interested then eventually one sharks gives them the exact offer they asked for and instead of taking the offer they insist on wanting to hear more. By this time the shark with the offee on the table is threatening to retract because they cant understand why they offered exactly what they asked and have not accepted.
Ive seen it where a couple times the person lost out completely after having their exact request offered.
We (NCAT) hired T-Rob with one major goal and that was betterment of the program and win MEAC titles. We are perennial title contenders (won a couple) and our players are routinely on the commissioners academic list.
Now what we have asked for has and is being given why are we we not satisfied when didnt ask to win the non conference thats just icing on the cake.
But i digress. I support all programs because i know in most cases we are taking a knife to a gun fight when it comes to non confernence events. And when we keep referring to football lets not act as if we beat UNC (Power 5), as i recall that ended in a 20 something point loss. However we were able to survive against arguably the 3 worst FBS teams at the time Kent State, Charlotte, ECU (non Power 5).

For me, it's not the team per se. There is evidence to support the fact that the approach to the season in recent years has treated the non-conference schedule as pre-season. Both by the play on the court and coach's comments regarding "getting ready for the conference schedule" support a premise that we use the beginning of the season to experiment by shuffling lineups, game plans etc. with the consequence being losing games that we should have won. I get the "peaking in March" thing because the current run is phenomenal but it can be disappointing as a fan when you have a team that you think should be 27-3 with a #10 seed but end up with a 20-10 team with a #15 seed for March Madness.
Once you turn the corner for possibilities, your aspirations become higher. Not just getting to the post season, but preparing from day one to get a higher seed in once you get there. Last year's team took South Carolina to task and this year's team are showing flashes of the "Beat Downs Unlimited" years but not quite there yet.
This is certainly turning out to be an exciting conference season, but look at our non-conference results:
Loss to Morehead State by 5 at HOME Loss to Akron by 13 at HOME Beat WSSU by 4 at HOME Loss to Virginia by 10 AWAY Loss to Maine by 4 NEUTRAL Loss to Navy by 23 AWAY Beat Western Carolina by 14 AWAY Loss to JCSU by 3 at HOME Loss to East Tennessee State by 5 AWAY Loss to Elon by 9 AWAY Loss to VCU by 6 at HOME Beat Florida Atlantic by 2 AWAY Loss to Yale by 10 NEUTRAL
Non-conference record (3-10)
cae, I know you are new, but Thrilla has been one of the biggest supporters of Women's basketball EVER, when it wasn't popular to do so. So I don't take his comments lightly. Let's see what March brings. AGGIE PRIDE!

I love women's basketball. I even left work early and came out to support the team during the first two games of this season, against Morehead and Akron.
Basically, Coach Robinson gave me his azz to kiss both games and just sat lifeless on the bench while we were out-coached and out-worked by two teams who we were CLEARLY better than.
That crap, combined with the debacle against JCSU and the near-debacle against WSSU, told me all I needed to know about this program's commitment to excellence.
If you dont have a burning desire to win EVERY SINGLE GAME on your schedule, then I can no longer invest my time and energy into supporting you.

I’m not sure quite sure where the azz kissing came from. Lol. I think people have issues with the wrong things sometimes (I.e Him sitting rather than standing). A lot of coaches do it. I’ve heard people say he was too hard on them early when he stood. But that’s a matter of opinion. Now, Morehead is also a good program and as it was shown, the team lost by 5. At Akron, I don’t think the entire team played just like most of non-conference with injuries. So many teams both men’s and women try to figure it out during non-conference. Not jjust our women’s basketball team. The ladies and most definitely the coach commitment to excellence is what the coach has been doing that past 7 years. They’ve had success. We all may not agree on everything, but I just think we need to put all things in perspective. Which is why I asked you about the men. If we are going to put the women in this conversation, why aren’t they in the same.

Now what we have asked for has and is being given why are we we not satisfied when didnt ask to win the non conference thats just icing on the cake. Once you reach a goal, you set a higher goal. Robinson has recruited a team and built a program that has the talent to do great things not just good things. The MEAC titles are good, the 17 straight MEAC wins are excellent but that is HBCU good. The football and the track programs have gotten to the point where they can see over the HBCU mountain top and are aspiring to be greater. So can women's basketball. It's the right coach, it's the right staff, it's the right players, it's the right time. Let's do it. BTW, did you see that yesterday sprinter Kayla White ran THE WORLD's fastest time this year in the 200m with A&T emblazed across her chest? That's the kind of excellence I'm talking about aspiring to. White beat kids from Alabama, LSU, Tennessee and so did our freshman Sturgis who came in 2nd place. There's no reason women's basketball can't achieve those same kind of successes.

The gap between mid-majors and majors in the women's game is very close and is the problem I have with how the program is run. You can win outside the conf. and still win the MEAC title, get a good seed and make a run in the big dance. I would think, that should be the objective of the program. That would be what keeps the program moving forward. You see this with the football team, that is why we are now getting the press and NFL notice.Since coach Bibb, our recruiting has been as strong and any mid-major but their development once here seem to be lacking.Look at our bigs, great job of recruiting, but as juniors and seniors still cannot catch and finish around the basket.I know everyone is working hard but it is hard to see the tangible results through the years.I think we have the talent to be special but it is going to take perseverance. Not a criticism, just an observation.

… Look at our bigs, great job of recruiting, but as juniors and seniors still cannot catch and finish around the basket. This. Every big on the team has that problem. At first I thought the problem was strength, but everybody got physically stronger. Then, I thought the problem was experience but they have that. They actually get the ball in a great position to score but do not finish consistently. The best finisher is the freshman and that shouldn't be the case. I've said in past years, I'll say it again. If we master the entry pass and the finish, this team would be virtually unstoppable conference and non-conference foes alike.

I don't study basketball like a lot of folks on this site but what I've observed in the A&T ladies games that I have attended this year...We have a talent problem. We miss lots of layups and free throws. Now to be fair, so do all the MEAC teams that I've seen us play. So being able to hit basic basketball shots appears to be an issue for our team. And despite being taller than most of our opponents under the basket, that doesn't give us an advantage. Our bigs are bigger but aren't able to convert that height advantage to points, block shots or rebounds. What our team does very well is play defense. Man, in the games I've watched they are scrappy as hell in the second half...stealing balls, disrupting passes and just forcing the opposing team to make mistakes.
Let's face it, there are a limited number of really talented women players coming out of high school each year and they typically end up at the larger PWI programs. So we have to play and win with what we recruit. I think the coaching staff and players have done an amazing job pulling this team together and winning and competing in our conference each year. Would I like to win more out of conference games? Sure, but I understand the challenges HBCUs and A&T face in recruiting talent and I'm happy with that.

There is still a huge disparity in talent from us and major college programs, thats just the truth.
We did play out of our minds last season against 2nd seeded South Carolina. But the talent gap is still tremendous.
The gap is much closer in FCS football outside of NDSU (which well find out about in 2020). Thats not take anything away from what our football team has accomplished. As far as track and fieldnis concern. We do have some of the peremier faciliites in the country. Also with track not being a mostly non revenue sport snd not televised not as much luster to go to LSU vs A&T in that regard. It has been proven you csn make the Olympics from D2 schools if you have the talent. We have the inside track, no pun intended on many of these superior track athletes based on facilities (we host most of these athletes at some point while they run AAU and travel club). Once they run on the track its a done deal. No other HBCU can offer that, so that corner of the market is on lock. It then comes down to what kind of college culture do you prefer.
We cant offer the same facilities in womens basketball, unless some of us can come with $x million dollars toward new arena, locker rooms, training rooms, nutritional programs. As ive stated before when we are funded as such then i'll expect W's against those programs.
This debate will go on til the end of time.

I went back and looked at the 7 seasons Coach Rob has been leading our women's program to see where this idea of he, his staff or his teams aren't trying to win their non-conference schedule and only care about the MEAC. I can't agree with those comments having looked back at his tenure. To me, they look like they want to win the non-conference schedule and postseason play. Let's not forget that team that almost upset South Florida in the WNIT. I'm pretty sure every coach and player playing the game knows that to get a lower seed in the NCAA tournament (which would help them advance) they need to win the non-conference schedule. Especially playing in the MEAC. Of course there are games I feel we should have won and didn't. A lot this year to be honest. However I'm sure the coaches and players think the same. To think because the women haven't won more non-conference games recently, that means they don't care about winning past the MEAC is making a comparison where there isn't one. How do those thoughts go hand in hand just because they didn't win? I'm sure they want to win as many games as possible. Heck our women's team almost had the biggest upset in NCAA Tournament history if they could have knocked off the NCAA defending champs, SEC champions, best attendance in women's college basketball for the last several years, USA Basketball head coach and #1 overall pick in the WNBA draft....University of South Carolina. I believe it was a 7 point game with 3:30 left in the 4th quarter last tournament. If that doesn't tell you our coaches and players want to win past the MEAC I don't know what will. They also played top 25 Georgia last year or the year before who finished 2nd in the SEC and was an NCAA tournament team to a 2 point game at home with 2:30 left in the 4th quarter. Auburn on the road was somewhat of a close game and they were getting votes in the top 25 poll. They played a ranked West Virginia team a couple years ago and outscored them 3 out of 4 quarters. I could go on and on. I hate that our women's team lately (hasn't been the case the entire time under Coach Rob) has gotten off to slow starts. It's a little unfair though to say that because he doesn't have a certain kind of demeanor on the bench that we would like him to have, that means he doesn't care enough to win. Maybe he knows his players better than us "sideline and internet coaches". Would it make us feel better if he paced and screamed and yelled, but we still ended up losing the game? Is this conversation all about perception and not reality? Maybe he knows that regardless of his response to his team, the outcome would be the same by them because he knows his team. Maybe he's trying to build character in his players. Maybe he's trying to prove a point to his team. Maybe he's trying to trust himself and the system he has developed that has won us a lot of games and championships. Let's also not forget that he is second on the all-time wins list in women's basketball history at A&T. He's past Coach Bibbs in wins and championships and still counting. Did people say the same thing about her? Was she treated the same way some of us treat Coach Rob? Will it take us losing Coach Rob to a PWI to truly understand and appreciate what he does for our women's basketball program and his vision for it? I trust he knows what he is doing. Whether I agree with how he does it or why he does it the way he does, his method works more times than it doesn't. I just want us to be fair to him and the program. Other non-MEAC coaches and programs give Coach Rob more respect than we do as "supporters" of the program. (Get's off soap box...LOL)

1) Nobody is talking about firing Robinson, but critiquing him after struggling vs DII opposition WAS FAIR. 2) To be fair, you have included DII/DIII victories in with his OOC schedule and you haven't included the OOC DI losses. Gotta show the whole body of work. 3) Robinson is the gold standard when it comes to women's basketball coaches at A&T. I loved me some Cage-Bibbs, but it cannot be argued what Robinson has consistently done. 4) There is even more room for growth and greater victories in his future at A&T 5) We need to continue to emphasize that Aggie women's basketball can be much more than just "MEAC good." Under HIS leadership, the potential is clearly there for us being NCAA good.

As ive stated before when we are funded as such then i'll expect W's against those programs. This debate will go on til the end of time. while i do agree with most of your post, let's also make sure that we understand that we've had our outstanding track facilities long before our men and women's track program began to dominate the meac 3 or 4 years ago. i mean, we're going for an meac championship "3-peat" indoors in 2 weeks. but we've had our very fine track facilities for well over a decade. my point is that until coach ross came aboard, our men's and women's track program was somewhere in the middle of the meac pack. norfolk state was dominating track/field every year back then. so "coaching" and "recruiting" means a lot at the college level, even if you have outstanding facilities. we've been getting better track athletes since coach ross arrived and he's done an excellent job developing those athletes, hence we're now nationally ranked in the top 15. i'm also a very strong supporter of the women's basketball program ever since coach bibbs first arrived. our current women's basketball program has indeed excelled within the meac and we aggies should be thrilled about that. but i also concur with those who feel we should be performing better out of conference. i'll particularly never understand how we managed to lose on our very own home court to a "winless" jcsu d2 team at the time. now that's a major "head scratcher" right there, that should never happen to a defending meac champion who is also preseason picked to repeat this year like we are. overall, i'm very pleased with our women's basketball program and i'll be at "the burr" when we play howard this weekend in full support of our young ladies. however, i too would like to see us perform better out of conference and i know that we're very capable of doing so...

In proving your point you should leave DII wins off the list. They are expected to be W’s plus they have no bearing on seeding for NCAA or NIT . It equates to 10 out conference W’s in the last 5 years. I like coach Rob and no one is a better recruiter the point being made is the more wins in nov / dec better seeding for NCAA or NIT. 14 & 13 seeds beating a #3 or #4 happen every year. Just playing a great game as a #15 or 16 only gets you recognition the day of the game !
