Whoever she first reported the alleged rape to, did not take appropriate actions I work on a college campus and we are required to do HR training every year on issues such as this. It literally is the role of any faculty, administrator, or staff person to properly document and report such instances. If you know something you are required to say something and then the campus must be vigilant in investigating and addressing the situation. This is a serious matter and I pray my alma mater responds to it immediately.

Policy/rules don't mean much when one's character is weak.

I sure we are not getting the whole story, and I'm not sure if I want details. But, why did this go on for 2 months with anyone including the victim going to the police, a professor, a RA, an adviser, the chancellors office, the Band Director, someone. #$#@ the Cheerleading coach they need to get to the bottom of what happened, and then the University can dual with the coach.

This could get really ugly...but I'm trusting that this administration will handle it with transparency and straightforwardness.
We don't need a mini-Michigan State mess here. Or a FAMU situation. This needs to be addressed immediately. I applaud her courage 2/1 is always day for demonstration.

Unfortunately sometimes very bad things have to happen so that proper procedures can be put in place going forward. This appears to be one of those times.

So we have to wait until students die or get raped (allegedly) in order for folks to do their jobs correctly?
Does anybody even watch the news? This exact same thing (allegedly) just happened at Baylor and Michigan State.

No Bornthrilla I think that we all agree that all students Rights should be upheld from the accuser to the accused but we should also proceed with caution until we know all the facts are made clear and the facts are found to be the truth .

IF she told the coaches and they did nothing it is without a doubt a Title IX violation and the university will be culpable. Not just the coaches, not just the program, but the university. This is not good.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case. We're treading in uncharted waters here being as large as we are as an hbcu. Things are going to take place that we are not properly prepared to happen whether we should be or not.
I strongly dislike that we have had to suffer the loss of an athlete's life and now the loss of a student's (who knows how many more unreported) innocence before we put the procedures in place. The bright side is Chancellor Martin is extremely proactive about cleaning up issues when they are presented. Honestly, had the victim sought proper procedures as opposed to just revenge she could have gone straight to his office. That being typed I don't blame her at all for desiring revenge. I would want the same for my daughter.

Even if they initially brushed her off, or hesitated in reporting it, that is still a violation. There may be an investigation going on NOW, but if she told the coaches or any other university official/representative months ago and nothing was done IMMEDIATELY then yes......it is a Title IX violation and the university can be held accountable.
