The Bayou Classic is not a Bowl game why would it be listed Thanks for pointing out what I missed or didn't pay much attention to, the word bowl. I do know that the Bayou is not a bowl. Just a rivalry game.

I believe ABC and the Air Force sponsor will end the contract in 2 years if the SWAC and MEAC tries to change the social aspect of day parties, band competition and the like.
That was not their goal and agenda when they created this bowl. Let's not get greedy and blow it all.

Let's just try to build upon the foundation and stay within the parameters that have already been laid out and not try to turn this into a football version of the CIAA Basketball Tournament.

I didn't think that we could turn the Bowl into anything, since we don't own any rights to the game. I assumed that we are an invitee based on our performance within our conference. In reading the comments, you would think that we have a say in how this game is produced and presented. I agree that we could possibly have the MEAC folks discuss ticket packaging and cost. Although, I believe there was a deal on the purchase of 4 tickets in the club level. Don't know if that was true. Mercedes Benz is a large venue which requires a huge sum of money to present a major event. So, the cost to attend won't be too cheap. This game means a lot financially to both the MEAC and SWAC as well as the national exposure they receive. We have to make sure that we (HBCUs) save this event by attending in larger numbers, since we are not that great in financial support to our institutions. A&T did a great job in increasing their attendance, but if the Bowl is going to survive, SWAC has got to increase their attendance as well.

More sponsorships would be great.

More sponsors for any event is great. Have you seen a souvenir book for any one of the 4 bowl games? If not, take a look. There are probably 30 major corporations listed. The executive committee is made up of about 25 prominent business leaders. Our goal or main focus should be to get people to attend. Fill those seats. I would think that people can send suggestions to the MEAC and SWAC offices, but I don't think that they would be receptive to some of the ideas discussed so far. Such as having multiple events over several days. The idea seems to be to invite a number of bands to participate in a battle of the bands. Who will cover that expense, as well as the major expense of sponsoring such an undertaking as a bowl game. A requirement or invitation to attend is not attending any school in MEAC or SWAC.

Black folk always trying to turn an event into another event. It's a football game. Attend it and promote the GAME and it will grow. If you don't it will turn into "December Homecoming in Atlanta" and there will be more people outside the game and in bars and day parties than inside the game. No gimmicks, just promote the football game, teams, schools and these players. Butts in the seats will be what keeps it sponsored.

Again, the SWAC needs to get rid of their championship game because their folks are broke by the time the Celebration Bowl comes around. This is why they are not attending in large numbers.

Do you think that they will ever reach that conclusion? A payday with national exposure is a major plus for the institutions. It leads to other revenue sources.

Butts in the seats will be what keeps it sponsored. 2.5 million viewers on TV every year for four years will be what should draw additional sponsors. John Grant needs to get on his horse. He now has a significant track record to sell. The SWAC should abandon the championship game and go ALL IN on the Celebration Bowl to command a higher payout. After all, this is their idea.
