HBCU Week 12 Predictions: 6 Teams Vying for Celebration Bowl Bid North Carolina A&T at North Carolina Central The Aggie Eagle Classic Above all Aggies, just focus on winning. They will need to do that, coupled with a FAMU loss, in order to win the MEAC title outright and earn a third trip to Atlanta. If the Aggies lose, they can still go to Atlanta with a BCU win over FAMU. The Eagles have the recent historical advantage. They are 3-1 in their last 4 games against the Aggies and 3-1 in last 4 match-ups in Durham. Thankfully, for the Aggies, QB Lamar Raynard will be returning from a concussion and he’s 1-0 against Central. Prediction: Aggies 30, Eagles 21. Ed Hardin: Why the FCS playoffs aren't the same Celebration for A&T football team By Ed Hardin, Greensboro News-Record Sports ed.hardin@greensboro.com November 15, 2018
Once again, everything hangs in the balance of one final regular-season game for the A&T football team. And once again, it’s Central.
A loss would likely end the Aggies’ season. A win could mean one of two scenarios. A&T would go either to the Celebration Bowl or the NCAA FCS playoffs. And while either one sounds good, one is not really equal to the other.
Go to the bowl game and get a check. Go to the FCS playoffs, and you’re likely writing checks.
It’s an argument a lot of historically black colleges and universities would love to be in on, an option they’d love to have. But for A&T, it’s a reality this season as it has been for several years now.
The Aggies are ranked 13th in the country and are all but assured of an FCS bid with a win over Central. While some believe A&T is a bubble team for the playoffs, most agree that with the two huge wins to open the season, its place in the playoffs, if necessary, has long been secure.
And while Sam Washington, the A&T coach, would love to take his team on the road for a test against the best FCS schools in the nation, a lot of others in and around the program prefer the bowl experience.
And the $500,000 check...

A fight defined last year’s Aggie-Eagle Classic. Can the teams keep their emotions in check this year? By Jonas Pope IV jpope@heraldsun.com DURHAM Sometimes the most heated moments in a rivalry football game happen before kickoff. That was the case for players from N.C. Central and N.C. A&T last season in Greensboro. Emotions spilled over from the locker room to the football field, where players were pushing and shoving each other at midfield during warmups. Punches were thrown, there were three personal fouls called and the Eagles’ all-conference safety Davanta Reynolds was ejected from the game before it even started. The Eagles and Aggies meet again on Saturday, this time in Durham, and the goal this year is for the teams to keep their emotions in check. “Human behavior is the greatest phenomenon known to man,” NCCU coach Granville Eastman said. “Nobody has been able to explain it since the beginning of time. What I did do on Sunday at our team meeting we made sure we showed them some video of that footage. Explained to them, in my heart, I thought that was a setback and set us up to lose the game before the game begun.” Read more here: www.heraldsun.com/sports/article221716220.html#storylink=cpy

A&T seeks to avoid penalties in heated rivalry game at Central By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com Nov 16, 2018 Updated 5 hrs ago
GREENSBORO — The big rivalry game always stirs up emotions. And that’s not always a good thing. No. 13/12 N.C. A&T (5-1 MEAC, 8-2) plays its regular-season finale against N.C. Central (2-3, 4-5) at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham at 2 p.m. Saturday. With a victory, A&T would clinch at least a share of the MEAC championship for the fourth time in the last five seasons. It’s the 90th time the two programs have met, and Central has won three of the last four. A&T snapped Central’s three-game winning streak last year after an ugly beginning. Central’s best defensive player, All-MEAC safety Davanta Reynolds, was ejected before the game began for throwing a punch during a scuffle 45 minutes before kickoff. Eagles team captain Jaquan Lee, who was ejected in the second half, taunted A&T’s captains with his 2016 championship rings during the coin toss. Out on the field, the teams combined for 27 penalties for 217 yards. And a lot of it was the kind of “nonsense” A&T coach Sam Washington hopes to avoid this time. “The deadball fouls are the ones that really bother me,” Washington said. “Penalties that happen after the play, that just makes no sense to me whatsoever. Those are the penalties we’re trying to get to cease.” For the rest of story:www.greensboro.com/sports/ncat/a-t-seeks-to-avoid-penalties-in-heated-rivalry-game/article_a25cd95b-af1d-5bbf-8278-58936bc0dee8.html
