Why does the band set up mics during the field shows and the 5th? Just let that natural sound project across the field. I just hate it when these other schools clown the B&GMM especially bcu!

Mics don't do anything to the sound projecting across the field. That would require a speaker, which they don't, and never have used. They do use professional recording equipment that makes the clips sound different than the mics most people are using. Somebody put up a clip of the same song alternating between standard and professional mics. I personally hate what the pro mics do to the sound, but some people like it. One of the comments on the video asked why the sound kept fading out. It wasn't fading, that's what the pro audio sounds like to anybody that's not a music professional.

The mics are not for the "band purest" or the "opposing band fans" or even for us...those mics are for the thousands of young band enthusiasts around the world that love the Blue & Gold Marching Machine. If you don't believe me check out last year's Youtube performance at Gardner Webb. It was viewed 342,000 times. Young kids today are accustomed to hearing their music on quality equipment and they don't care what mics you used. So we have a choice, record our performances on low quality equipment like other bands and sound like it was recorded on a cell phone or use professional level mics and sound like we are professional organization. By the way, I don't care what mics or equipment we use, haters are going to hate. Let's just accept that and get on with our lives. Hail half the HBCU band world still hates us for incorporating corp style marching into our performances. We can't start letting the haters start telling us what we should and shouldn't do.

Band heads which include the kids like natural sound. The kids you try the recruit notice a big difference between the true sound and the edited sound. It is a big difference, very big difference. Marching band is not to be looked at like a singer who sounds like a studio performer. Ask the kids at your Homecoming that submitted application to NSU after Friday and Saturday performances. You all continue to make an excuse when people know T is trying to create a false sound. Marching bands cant lie during live performances.

The BGMM has great sound during "live" performances and produce quality videos for the Youtube audience. Like everything else, there are people with different opinions about it. Some like it and some don't. Personally, I like what we are doing.
