Langley and Edmead didn't have good games.....can't win without them stepping up......PERIOD! I'm pleased with the squad, but one major issue we have to fix is our offensive sets. We dribble....dribble....dribble....dribble.....dribble. Eventually we got too much 1-1 in the waning seconds of the shot clock. UNCG passes.....passes.....passes.....passes until they get quality shots. We were too stagnant on offense. We clearly have quick feet on the team to where, if we move the ball more, we can get good shots. Too much damn dribbling and not enough moving. Coach really has to change this immediately and not let this "offensive behavior" linger throughout the season.
UNCG is good. They aren't much better than us, but they are better. I was disappointed with our starting guards. They just didn't step up when we needed them to. Our wings and big men played more than valiantly.
For this being the 1st game, we have nothing to hang our heads down over. They exceeded our expectations.......but Langley and Edmead have to be LEADERS and the MAJOR REASONS behind our victories, not our defeats.

UNCG is a fun team to watch. I love their 40 minutes of hell style of defense.

They have a decent trap defense, but I gotta be honest.......I was unimpressed with how our guards handled the trap. Furthermore, no one was consistently floating the middle and those in the frontcourt were not coming to meet the ball. We looked way too timid when they put the trap on....

9-21 at the free throw line......we can talk about dunking, 3-point shooting and exciting play. Hitting free throws is fundamental.....

I usually attend one A&T game early in the season just to see if we have any players that can hit a jump shot. The answer...yes we do! In fact I was very impressed that we have some serious shooters. Unfortunately, we can't hit free throws worth a darn!
One last observation, we need a true point guard. We struggled just to get the ball over midcourt. We struggled last year and it appears we haven't gotten any better.

this was a good game last night - kudos to the coach and Coach Miller at UNCG for scheduling it. I learned more from this team playing UNCG last night than us playing Greensboro College. This team is an upgrade (if we play to our potential) from last year. We have shooting, which we desperately needed. The major Achilles heel is PG/ball-handling. Hey, Langley had an off night last night. If he lives up to his billing, we'll be fine. This team needs our support. We have another potential 20-win team this year if we handle our business......

Can't believe our bigs let this happen.
What happened to all those guys who were touching the top of the backboard on that workout video?

"Let this happen" hell our bigs couldn't get out of his way fast enough. This happened 3 or 4 times and our bigs just stood and watched. It was very embarrassing. I kept thinking if Keyes was still around he would have sent the ball and the UNCG player into the reserve seats. May have gotten a foul but the UNCG players would have thought twice before going to the basket.

Before we get to the dunk how is it that the ball was not stopped or challenged before it got there, the second guard ran to the ball and stopped the second two opened like the red sea! Speaks volumes. They are still in training.

Not a good game at all. That is just my opinion. If the team is as good as purported by many (like every year), we would have had the advantage by playing at home and won the game. Most of their players will be back next year, while six (4 GR & 2 SR) of A&T's players will be gone. Will they be first up on our schedule next year?

We are two years removed from winning just one division one game the entire season.
Why would you think this program would be favored to win an opening game against a defending conference champion? Even if it was at home.
UNCG is just a better program at this point. Joyner is still trying to build here.

You made my point. Why would anyone expect to beat UNCG a championship winning team, if you are in a rebuilding mode almost every year. Then you brilliantly schedule your first game against them, your recruiting competition that is a few blocks down the street. They beat you on your floor and advertise that they own the city. Schedule them later in the season, after you have gotten your team a good amount of experience. Joyner is not new to the program. He was Cy's associate head coach and did much of the same type of recruiting he does today. He had his best season last year, but is now playing with pretty much a new group of players. Most of whom appear to need coaching up. Hopefully, by January he can get these players in a position to compete for the championship. The school can't go through several more decades of mediocrity.
Oh, I was well aware of UNCG's successful program. It took some years for them to develop a winning program. We should still be beating the sox off of them as we did years ago.
