ECU releases Week 1 Depth Chart By Stephen Igoe
Game week is here for ECU's football team. With the arrival of Monday's press conference, head coach Scottie Montgomery and the Pirates' coaching staff have revealed their season-opening depth chart for Week 1 ahead of Saturday's matchup against North Carolina A&T. As announced earlier this preseason, sophomore quarterback Reid Herring will get the start at quarterback ahead of Kingsley Ifedi and Holton Ahlers, with Ifedi listed as the top backup. Senior running back Anthony Scott tops the depth chart at his position in a bit of a surprise, ahead of Trace Christian, Hussein Howe and Darius Pinnix, in that order. The highly-anticipated right guard spot is led by Branden Pena, followed by Jordan Johnson. Peyton Winstead is listed as the backup left guard. Defensively, Bruce Bivens beat out Cannon Gibbs for the starting 'mike' linebacker job. True freshman Dorian Hardy is backing up Nate Harvey at defensive end. Defensive end Chance Purvis, tight end Ben Norris and offensive lineman Donovan Noel are all listed as out this week with injuries. Here's a look at the complete depth chart. (Please note: As in past years, the depth chart isn't the end-all, be-all, and is subject to change depending on what happens throughout the week of practice leading up to Saturday 6 p.m. kickoff. Still, it gives an accurate representation of the expected starters and top contributors heading into the team's first game). ECU all about the Aggies By RONNIE WOODWARD The Daily Reflector Monday, August 27, 2018Months of the East Carolina football team trying to put a 3-9 record in 2017 in the past took a big turn Monday with all focus on final preparations for Saturday’s season-opener against North Carolina A&T. ECU enters Week 1 of the traditional college football season in a unique position with N.C. A&T having already played a game, which Pirate third-year coach Scottie Montgomery broke down Monday during his first weekly news conference, detailing what advantages or disadvantages ECU might possess for Saturday’s 6 p.m. contest at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. A&T used a strong defensive and special teams effort to win 20-17 at Jacksonville (Ala.) State on Saturday night during a Football Championship Subdivision kickoff showcase. A&T, which has never played against the Pirates, started the year with a primetime victory to extend its winning streak to 13 games after last season’s 12-0 record. The Aggies will come to Greenville confident in their ability to possibly upend ECU, but Montgomery reiterated Monday that his squad has made major changes and positive strides since ending the 2017 campaign with a 70-13 loss to Memphis to finish 3-9 for the second straight season. “There is a certain group of people that believe the biggest jump happens between Week 1 and Week 2, but I don’t necessarily believe in all of that,” Montgomery said. “The biggest jump happens between January and August, and that is what we are trying to concentrate on right now. We are really trying to remain extremely focused and ready for this football game.” For the rest of the story:www.reflector.com/ECU/2018/08/27/ECU-all-about-the-Aggies.html

Looking at their defense, we should be able to move the ball more. If Raynard is on, it could be a long night for the Pirates.

6- lol Yea I would have already sent out a thread but I did not see any 6-8 or 6-9 290lbs on the roster. so maybe we will be ok. We got to get bigger on that Offensive line. At least get some 6-7 guys

ECU will be ready to Play .The Coach is a Dead man walking if He take a L from us.. You know what I am ok if we lose like the way Parie View lost to Rice. I want be happy but I will be ok. They suppose to win with all the advantages they have. I just want us to play hard and if we can win this game lets do it. I think Raynard and others have to understand we got to play better if we expect to win this game. Please lets not have a Femi/Tulsa football game.

Three things: What we learned from A&T football's opener By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com GREENSBORO — Game 1 is in the books, and what a game it was for A&T. The No. 14 Aggies (1-0) beat No. 6 Jacksonville State (0-1) 20-14 in the made-for-TV Guardian FCS Kickoff Classic at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., on Saturday night. Three things we learned about these Aggies headed into their matchup at East Carolina: 1. The offensive line is still a work in progress. The big question mark for A&T coming off its 12-0 season was up front, where the Aggies graduated four out of five starters on the offensive line and the fifth, junior Marcus Pettiford, moved from right tackle to left tackle. Well, that remains the question mark. For the rest of the story:www.greensboro.com/sports/college/three-things-what-we-learned-from-a-t-football-s/article_32970ded-4fc5-5c75-a2ac-ea47f382ac09.html

Don't like this. All this will do is motivate the ECU players. I want them cocky and thinking they have an easy win. With this pick they will come in the game looking to prove something.
