Tarik Cohen buys new gym equipment for school hit by tornado Posted by Michael David Smith on June 12, 2018, 9:59 AM EDT Bears running back Tarik Cohen stepped up for some kids who needed it near his hometown. Hampton Elementary School in Greensboro, North Carolina, was severely damaged by a tornado in April. Cohen, who grew up in the area and went to college in Greensboro at North Carolina A&T, showed up at the school with brand new equipment for their gym classes. “Tarik Cohen, running back for the Chicago Bears, bought a ton of PE equipment and delivered it to our school today!” said a message shared on social media. “We are so appreciative! As most of you know, Hampton Elementary was severely damaged by a tornado and we lost all our PE equipment. A&T alumnus Tarik Cohen donates sporting goods to tornado-damaged Hampton Elementary
By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com GREENSBORO — Tarik Cohen made his contribution quietly Monday. No press conference. No media circus. Heck, he didn't even post it on his own social media accounts. Cohen simply showed up and gave a bunch of sporting goods to Hampton Elementary, one of three Greensboro schools heavily damaged by an EF-2 tornado April 15. Footballs. Basketballs. Jump ropes. Cones. All new stuff for the school's physical education and leisure programs. Cohen, N.C. A&T's record-setting running back who now plays for the Chicago Bears, didn't seek the spotlight Monday. But Hampton posted a thank-you on its Facebook page complete with half a dozen pictures. The post read: "Tarik Cohen, running back for the Chicago Bears visited Hampton Elementary today. Tarik donated tons of PE equipment to replace the items that were damaged in the tornado. He hand delivered the items to our school and spent time interacting with our students. We are so appreciative! Thank you Tarik for giving back to the community!"
