Let's move the spring practice stuff to the private forum.

No. This is public information. Everything I posted in already on twitter.

If the A&T football coaches wanted their scrimmages to be private they wouldn't have gotten on social media and told everybody to come out and watch.

I agree. These are just highlights and really should be on the athletic website along with breakdowns and interviews from the coaches on how the guys are coming along.
On another note. The field looks terrible...

Man, that field looks like the set of a Mad Max movie. I know we just had a cold front last week, but damn ...

Please, not another highjacked thread on the field condition.

And we'll be replacing the track surface. It's not just football.

I didn't want to go there this year but I'm forced to. Just go 20 miles down the road. For the A&T apologetics, explain this: You can't! Embarrassing for a top flight program, which we are. Quite frankly, I'm embarrassed and maybe embarrassment is what it takes. And before anyone goes there, I contacted our AD last year on this issue and money he said IS NOT the issue. don't we want to top flightin EVERY aspect of the program? I know capt aggie and others want to stay on point, but this is on point. We are about to have a Spring Game on a field that looks worse than an city park field in the hood. This makes no sense to me.

Since we use the field for track and field, wouldn't it make more sense for the field to look better than it does? We are hosting an event in two weeks and it looks like crap. There is more dirt out there than grass.

This makes no sense to me. There are treatments used on the fields that require folks to stay off it for an extended period of time. It's no different than any other school... except we have multi-use fields. So we can't do appropriate treatment/maintenance until both football & track are out of season. That would likely explain why the AD would say that it's not a money issue.

Man, we are looking at our game field! T&F is not a factor because the throwers don't throw there. Many of the spots were saw were from football logos. I asked Hilton about resources, expertise and knowledge of the grounds crew, type of grass, cost to maintain the fields and field turf. He said none of those things were an issue but he also,to his credit, he took responsibility for field conditions. He said we spend $50,000 - $60,000 a year on field maintenance. He said that he has considered turf but had not made a decision. Field turf would cost about $80,000 a year to finance. IMO, it's a matter where the field conditions fall on the list of priorities for athletic department. Optics are important if football is the "front porch" of the university these days. If it were me (and it's not),because I like grass, I'd put immense pressure on the facilities team step up their game and raise the standards, or I would contract out field maintenance to sports field experts. We need to collectively stop making excuses for the field conditions, durhamgso. If this still concerns anyone, contact him at hiltone@ncat.edu. He will respond promptly. Ten(10) contacts may move him to action.

The javelin is thrown on the game field and is a big issue because that's the one event that could damage a field turf base. We've talked that several times before. It's human to pay attention to what we want to... I get it. But no situation is cut & dry... otherwise it would be resolved already. It's why schools don't have their track collocated with their football field. We're a relic in that regard.
