JSU has an interesting attendance dynamic.
They had less than 13K for the ESPN Kickoff as BT indicated vs Chatanooga. They almost 24K for their home opener 4 weeks later vs. Liberty Their least-attended home game was actually their Homecoming game vs. SE Missouri (15K)
I think ESPN knows that not only will A&T fans travel, but HBCU fans from AL, GA, TN and MS will show up as well. They'll bust 20K and will increase viewership with us in the game... especially coming off the great 2nd Celebration Bowl win.
And it's early (August 25th). So even though we'd play ECU the following week, there will likely be a built-in extra bye week.

Man, yall are taking about this ECU rumor like it is gospel. It was started on a ECU message board last year by some poster who said he heard it from somebody who heard it from somebody else. Nobody of any significance has ever confirmed that the game being bought out was even a remote possibility. Thats what I am saying you all act as if this is a done deal. Aggie One I cannot believe you are even engaging in this nonsense. Am I missing something. And for the Love of god help me to understand if the ECU is gospel why would we consider playing JSU on Aug 25th. Seem to me we would just play them on labor day weekend if we know for sure we have a open date. I am not buying it. I wish the AD could shed so light on this so we can get pass this so call rumor. Are you all hearing this from the ECU football board. This is a side note. I did not know FCS schools could play one week before Sept. I thought only D2 school could do that. But I must be wrong. If the game is televised, 2 FCS schools can play on "week 0" FAMU & Texas Southern did it last year.

I can name about 20 other HBCUs who'd love to get a call from ESPN to highlight their team/university in an opening season FCS football special.
[/quote]
Please say this again.
And you could replace 'HBCU's' with 'PWI's' and still be right on point with the above statement.
It seems to me that if we were to participate in this FCS Kickoff Classic game, it would be beneficial for our athletic department and university. We all on this board want that, correct? Or, am I missing something?

Trues you have misinterpeting what I posted. Until we hear something different from our AD, we are still playing ECU. The Jacksonville game is something new. 1. I just don't like the idea of playing both of those teams back-to-back from a possible injury standpoint. With what we are bringing in terms of recruiting, we should be able hang with both of them. 2. On the scheduling rule, it is D-2 teams that cannot play before the first week of September. D-1 teams can play anytime after the thrid week in August. You had things reversed. 3. Now if, and only if should ECU were to buy us out, that would leave an open date on Labor Day weekend which we could schedule in our traditional cupcake opponent at home in Aggie Stadium. We would need to balance out our early out of conference schedule. That is what I was referring to in my initial post.

You beat me to the punch aggieclt......this type of early season attention (especially on the FCS level) is something any FCS school (PWI or HBCU) would relish. Crampton Bowl, Holland Bowl, Rose Bowl, Tidy Bowl.....I don't care where the game is played. If ESPN is there and has us on camera......IT'S A GOOD THING!!! Y'all should know by now that we do it up big for our school everytime we get on national TV. Furthermore, that game would be about advertising US......not the rest of the MEAC like it has been in the SWAC/MEAC challenge or the Celebration Bowl.
For this game.......A&T ALONE will be spotlighted. You can't tell me that doesn't bode well for our profile....

What all this means in a nutshell is that we are about to take that giant step into the world of being recognized as a perrienal Top Ten FCS football program. Welcome to the big time.

This could be huge for us as a program.
In fact, this game might be one of those "Forks In The Road" where we can possibly get the entire conference back into the national picture on our terms.
Those who know our sports history know that Tennessee State did this for all of black college basketball back in the '50s after the creation of NAIA District 29.
IMHO, if we get invited, we've got to accept the offer and win.

I have two points: Who the say that we don't already have a cupcake on the schedule because you know if Washington is anything like Broadway we will be playing a cupcake. We have not seen the official yet. second I just believe the game is going to be played because we would not schedule a early week game in Aug. Me thinks we already have a cupcake game and ECU and Jacksonville State. #2 if its true D2 cannot play before Sept. You remember when broadway first came to NCCU as a D2 school and they beat us because he schedule a official game in August they could get a head up step ahead of us. I have also seen WSSU schedule games early years ago . Unless this is a new rule.

Dominant A&T, resurgent Howard, good hire by FAMU, consistent BCU, and a strong NCCU- all equal very good narratives for the conference. Hampton should not have sold out. Plus whatever happens with the MEAC, we are positioning ourselves to look very appealling to other conferences. Call me crazy but Jacksonville State aint the Dakota schools, I expect a competitive game.

No doubt Broadway would be uptop in the Coaches box, I don't think his spirit would allow him to stay away from that game.

You right if we play Jacksonville and ECU. Its a no-brainer which school I am going to tailgate with. Man, won’t nothing be better than to whoop on this team AND THEN return to the Celebration Bowl. That would be the ultimate middle finger to the FCS subdivision. jacksonville state ain't no "cream puff". again, let me remind you that they were "fcs national championship" runner-ups to ndsu just 2 seasons ago (2015). they ain't no gardner webb or elon! nor a kent state or unc-ch! man, i get it that our folk are so confident since we just completed an undefeated season. but there wasn't a team on our 2017 schedule that could stay within 3 td's of jacksonville state. hey, i'm "realistic" and only call it the way that i see it. before the cb, none of any (meac) playoff games were remotely close, including us against richmond. so i have no idea whatsoever that leads some of ya'll to believe that all of sudden we're on the same level as a potential fcs playoff semi-finalist. be careful what you wish for. i could see if it was a playoff game, then i'd be all for it. but for an ooc regular season game? i'm not down unless we don't have any fbs teams on our schedule...

I'm sorry you aren't a believer in this but I am. I know what I've seen from us and Jacksonville State. It will be a nail biter and we will show the rest of the FCS world that we are for real. IDGAF about the past in this situation. I am wishing for this one and wishing for it prayerfully.

man, some of ya'll are letting our undefeated season go to your heads! and our top 10 fcs ranking don't mean "squash" to me other than the national publicity we get. but i honestly don't think we were amongst the best 10 fcs teams in the country last season. sorry, but i ain't buying it.
yes, no doubt we were the best hbcu in the country last year and we proved it! but that's a far cry from being a top 10 fcs team. imho, we're not on that level yet. i don't want no unnecessary "L's" on our record, especially since we're breaking in a new head coach...

Respectfully this has nothing to do with our Undefeated season and letting things get to our heads. At the end of the day you'd still like to know where your program stacks up against the rest of the FCS world and this would give us a nice idea of where we stand and improvements that need to be made.
Some carried on so bad that we were out of the playoffs called the CB everything under the sun because we were "separating" ourselves from the rest of the FCS world BUT now that we get the opportunity to have playoff quality teams on the schedule you're whining that they are so far above us basically giving us an "L" before the contract has even been signed. That's NOT a good look IMO.
