I’d be all for it if JSU was Jackson State University Tigers at more of a mid point like Atlanta, but Jacksonville State in Alabama...ain’t feeling that at all. I have no links, ties, or interest in Jacksonville state... You right if we play Jacksonville and ECU. Its a no-brainer which school I am going to tailgate with.

me personally, i don't know if i want any parts of jacksonville state, over the last 3 years jsu has been an fcs "powerhouse". i certainly wouldn't want to play them in the same season that a major fbs team like ecu is on our schedule. just to give you some perspective on jsu, here's a 5 year breakdown of their scores against fellow ovc member tennessee state (i think tsu is comparable to us)...
2017 => won 36-6 2016 => did not play tsu 2015 => won 48-13 (jsu was fcs national championship runner-up to ndsu in '15) 2014 => won 27-20 2013 => loss to tsu 31-15

Dude, I've never read so much damn whining in my life.........you realize we're an FCS powerhouse as well. If ESPN is going to make this a beginning-of-the-season football special, for which we'll likely get paid, sign me up. More TV exposure and a paycheck.......and you're whining about having to play a good school? We can't play Shaw and VU-Lynchburg every year. You realize we're FCS. It's called competition......you may win some; you may lose some........ but you can't be scared to compete against anyone on your level.
I can name about 20 other HBCUs who'd love to get a call from ESPN to highlight their team/university in an opening season FCS football special.

We always play up to our competition.

Man, won’t nothing be better than to whoop on this team AND THEN return to the Celebration Bowl. That would be the ultimate middle finger to the FCS subdivision.

As a competitor... I do hope we take this game. Check out this tweet from QB Jalen Fowler:
Even though I have concerns over our first game without Brandon Parker since 2013, I recognize that this could be a watershed moment for HBCU football in the eyes of the FCS community. So the risk is worth it to achieve a greater reward.
And what would it say about Coach Washington to win a virtual road game like this as your opener? An awful lot, IMO.

They just don’t know how this team is motivated. Coach Broadway’s legacy will live on.

For The Record...
Jacksonville State signed a 2-year agreement with ESPN to play in this FCS Kickoff game. The first year of the agreement was last season, and the game was played in Mobile, Alabama. The second year of the deal is this season with the game in Montgomery. It is what it is, as they say.
We are one of a couple of other teams being considered as the opponent for Jacksonville State this season.

Their game last year drew 13,000 fans. They probably want us so they can sell some tickets.

Look at a map. Jacksonville St is in Alabama, but it's 2.5 hours (160 miles) away from Montgomery. So it ain't as if we're playing right in their backyard.

If they were worried about ticket sales they would schedule a SWAC school or FAMU. JSU/FAMU/SU and Bama State would make the game standing room only. They want the storyline and TV ratings. Raynard is a top FCS QB and the school is reigning BCF national champs. An instant story line to get people to watch the game.
