Raiders pick A&T left tackle Brandon Parker in third round of NFL Draft By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com Apr 27, 2018 Updated 35 min ago
KANNAPOLIS — A little more than five years ago, Brandon Parker was a disappointed, overlooked high school kid who got exactly one college scholarship offer. Today he’s a grown man starting his career as a professional football player. The Oakland Raiders selected N.C. A&T’s All-America left tackle with the first pick of the third round of the NFL Draft at 9:20 p.m. Friday night. The Raiders traded up to get Parker with the 65th overall pick, giving up three picks (Nos. 75, 152 and 212) to make the move. “They are a team on the rise," Parker said. "There are so many great things going on with them. They brought in (running back) Marshawn Lynch last year, and they just got (coach) Jon Gruden this off-season. They’re one of the pioneers of the league. It’s a top-notch organization to play for.” Parker got the news over the phone during a gathering of friends and family at his parents’ home in Kannapolis. "There are so many people here tonight," Parker said. "My family, both my grandmas, both my grandpas, all my aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews. My fiancee. It's just a special night. “Getting that phone call, it was the greatest feeling. You get that uncontrollable excitement. It’s really hard to describe.” For the rest of the story: www.greensboro.com/news/local_news/raiders-pick-a-t-left-tackle-brandon-parker-in-third/article_832ec252-4a82-11e8-a2f8-af07e26df373.html

Raiders go big with N.C. A&T OT Parker in third roundBy CRAIG HALEY STATS FCS Senior Editor April 27, 2018
(STATS) - If the Oakland Raiders' newest offensive tackle sounds a little like five-time Pro Bowler Tyron Smith of the Dallas Cowboys, it's because Brandon Parker patterns himself after him.
That look was just right for the Raiders, who used the first pick of the third round - 65th overall - to select Parker out of North Carolina A&T at the NFL Draft Friday night...

We always hear about children of alums that attended HBCUs going to PWIs. Honestly, it was hard to stay motivated at the beginning,” Parker said on the eve of the draft. “Both of my parents are Chapel Hill graduates, and I had my heart set on playing in Chapel Hill. Not getting that offer was a little bit crushing. But my parents kept me uplifted, kept telling me, ‘If you can play, they’ll find you anywhere.’
