If Celebration Bowl not renewed the issue at hand for the SWAC has always been Bayou Classic played the same weekend the FCS play-offs start.

Those two programs would continue to bypass the postseason for a bigger payday, but the other conference members would likely compete for some top seeds in the D2 playoffs.
Alcorn might even have a legitimate chance to finish their season with a victory for a change. lol

I believe the main concern for some of those SWAC schools dropping to D2 would be the loss of scholarships from 63 (FCS) to 36 (D2). Their football rosters would not look the same with that change in money.

A complete failure, IMHO. They already have an iconic logo that is recognized across the globe. Why change it??

New city. New Stadium. Opportunity to sell new merch. Yeah...I know about the new stadium and all. And I understand the marketing end of it. I just didn't see a need to change that iconic logo.
It's the same reaction that I would feel if the Boston Celtics developed a different leprechaun and dropped GREEN from their color scheme.

Anyone that thinks that the SWAC conference heads would allow any of its programs to drop to division 2 has no conception about how the SWAC fans and programs work ! The SWAC really does not care one bit about the FCS playoffs .Let the SWAC be the SWAC and go about there business their own way ; As the saying goes for me " If they like it I love it".

Eric Dickerson to speak with Rams about fans' logo concernsLindsey Thiry ESPN March 25, 2020 @ 3:23 pm
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson has offered to be the voice of Los Angeles Rams fans who have been angered about the new team logos that were released earlier this week.
Dickerson, who currently holds the title of Rams vice president of business development, considers himself among the people who are unhappy with the new look...
...On Monday, the Rams revealed the first of a two-part rebranding effort as they prepare for the 2020 season inside their new home at SoFi Stadium. The Rams unveiled updated team colors and logos, and new uniforms are expected to roll out later this spring.
The Rams have moved on from the navy blue, light gold and white color scheme that they adopted in 2000 in St. Louis. Their new colors are similar to their throwback royal blue and gold, but with a brighter twist. The Rams are calling their new hues "Rams Royal" and "Sol."
Before the reveal, Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff acknowledged that for some fans the new look would require an adjustment period...Click here to read the rest of this article: www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28953905/eric-dickerson-speak-rams-fans-logo-concerns

Also, I do not think the MEAC remains a FCS conference in 5 more years. I see SCSU dropping down to D2 in all sports once Pough retires, followed by NCCU and Norfolk. Once that happens the Florida schools will have no reason to remain and it will become a virtual footrace to see who can secure a lifeboat before the Titanic is underwater. Hampton saw the writing on the wall and got a spot in the Big South. Morgan is probably waiting to see how the Pirates adjust to their new home and then try to follow suit. We need to be preparing our exit strategy right now. No MEAC means no Celebration Bowl. No Celebration Bowl and no playoffs means the SWAC will probably all drop down to D2. They have no incentive not to. It is conceivable that A&T could be one of the few, if not the only, HBCU playing at the FCS level by 2023. Good news for us is that we are currently the largest and one of the most visible HBCUs in the nation. It is absolutely imperative that we maximize our current position to secure our future. Bringing this back ....

SWAC ain't going to d-2. They'll just remain a shell d-1 playing with themselves. This thread is a gold mine of correct prognostications and good ideas. Where do we go? Step 1. First, lock Broadway in for another run. Step 2. Make NATIONAL prominence the goal as a university, with football being the front porch. Right now we are still a regional school. Step 3. In 2019, take D2 teams off the schedule unless it is WSSU. Commit to a FCS/FBS out of conference schedule. Reason: Upgrade the play on the field by upgrading the competition during the season. Step 4. Win at least two of the next three Celebration Bowls. Establish dominance in that game. Hope Southern gets in so that the SWAC elite all get beat by us. Step 5. Beat Elon the next two times we play them. 2019 and 2020. Step 6. By 2021, unseat Grambling as the BCF icon to new recruits who would have seen us multiple times in the Celebration Bowl by then. Step 7. By 2021, remove all excuses for inability to recruit competitively ie. facilities, championships, TV games, NFL looks, quality of education, etc. when competing against upper level FCS schools and lower level FBS schools for recruits. Step 8. Expect and prepare to develop at least one NFL draft pick every other year and at least one NFL roster spot every year. That list of goals should keep us busy for the next 4-5 years. Back to my thoughts on the rebranding of the bulldog logo, I really think it's time for an upgrade. Our current logo is very stale and conveys none of the qualities and emotions that we want to promote as proud alums. . . I think the new logo should display a fierce looking dog who has his head raised in a manner of extreme confidence. As Aggies we are known for our PRIDE (more accurately, our ARROGANCE) and we need to embrace that and start looking down our noses on all the haters. This is far from a perfect example but kinda gives the idea of what I mean by raised head. . In a new conference a new logo should be next on the list. That yellow dog needs to be permanently retired.

I believe that FAMU and the SWAC schools will eventually find a way to redefine what it means to be successful at the D2 level. The small benefits of remaining D1 will no longer be worth it for them to continue the masquerade.
Think back to the run WSSU went on a few years ago when they made it to the D2 Championship Game. The amount of exposure and positive media coverage they received that year was comparable to our current Celebration Bowl streak.

That championship run didn’t create long lasting revenue increases to counteract not owning Bowman Gray or a large enough basketball arena.

That championship run was only one year. But it provided an example of what an HBCU athletic department could look and feel like when you are competing at highest levels of D2.
The entire SWAC conference would immediately be a powerhouse at the D2 level.

Think back to the run WSSU went on a few years ago when they made it to the D2 Championship Game. The amount of exposure and positive media coverage they received that year was comparable to our current Celebration Bowl streak. totally disagree. the d2 national championship was not carried by "abc", nor espn. it was on "espn2". "abc" reaches far more households than cable tv. additionally, some folk argue that the fcs national championship don't matter, well the d2 national championship matters even "less". plus, no way in hail the d2 national championship game gets as much "hype" as the celebration bowl, not to mention that the cb is a "bowl game" whereas the d2 national championship ain't...
