A&T's Tarik Cohen impressive in debut with Chicago Bears Staff Reports
Tarik Cohen, the Chicago Bears' fourth-round draft pick from A&T, made a strong impression in the team's NFL preseason opener on Thursday night. Cohen, the all-time leading rusher in A&T and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference history, rushed seven times for 39 yards in the first half. Coach John Fox liked what he saw of the 5-foot-6, 170-pound native of Bunn. “Tarik flashed quite a bit at training camp, and we’ve seen a lot of what he’s capable of,” Fox said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “I think most people saw it (Thursday).” Cohen played eight snaps, mostly with the first-team offense, according to 247sports.com. "He’s just dynamic," said wide receiver Victor Cruz, a former Pro Bowl player, via CSN Chicago. "He’s one of those guys that has that speed and agility and quickness that you can’t coach Against one of the top defenses in The NFL, in comparison, Fournette finished the day with 9 carries for 31 yds

Cohen's game translated to the pro game exactly how I thought it would. He's still not going to take any big hits. The Bears coaching staff is going to learn the same thing that our coaching staff learned when he first got on campus. He's going to be a lot more than just a third down, change of pace back. bluehaze, i had the exact same thought. my first thought was a reminder that thrilla (of all people) warned us early in preseason camp when cohen was a freshman that cohen stood out in practice and would have major impact. my 2nd thought was a reminder that cohen actually wasn’t our starting rb for the first few games when he was a true freshman, but you got the feeling that no way was he gonna be the backup for very long. and that’s the feeling i had last night. i don’t see cohen being just a 3rd down back, at the very least. but my “gut” is telling me that he’s gonna be the starting rb for the bears by week 6 of the regular season. that’s the feeling i had watching him perform last night, the same feeling i had when i first saw him as a true freshman…

He'll be starting, taking carries away from Howard sooner, than later. They'll have both of them splitting carries 50/50 if Cohen can keep this up. They're going to need that running game in Chicago to be successful if they want to have any hope of winning at least 6 games.

this is so weird! i'm a redskins fan and they play baltimore tonight in their first preseason game. however, i'm more excited about watching cohen play tonight than i am the redskins playing our "beltway rivals" in baltimore. i'm recording both games but i will watch the bears first. i'll fast forward to see all of cohen's plays first and then switch over to the redskins game... lol, i got so excited watching cohen last night that i never did switch over to the redskins game...

I had tickets to the Redskins game and opted to stay home and watch Cohen. I made the right choice.

Those of us without NFL channel had to watch the Skins and search the internet for any news about Cohen. What little I saw online was encouraging. Just hope darn John Fox figures out fast how to properly use Cohen. He's a special back with special skills if you know how to get him open in space. Fox's Carolina Panthers were more of a straight forward running team.

Yes I would love to see him touching the ball 20 times as a running back , but the pounding on his body will just be to much . Now give him 20 touches in different formation and situations I am all for that but again The Kid needs to be in space I hope Fox understands that !!!

From punts to runs, Tarik Cohen proving a ‘fabulous spark’ for Bears2017 BEARS TRAINING CAMP 08/12/2017, 12:05am Chicago.suntimes.comPatrick Finley @patrickfinley Tarik Cohen had one thought when the punt was dropping into his arms at the 14-yard line Thursday night: “How fast are the gunners coming down here to tackle me?” The answer: Not fast enough. Cohen caught the ball, made a video-game juke move and ran down the left sideline for 17 yards. It was a big first step for Cohen, who had called a fair catch earlier in the Bears’ preseason game against the Broncos while rotating punt-return duties with fellow rookie Eddie Jackson. Cohen, a 5-6 running back, hadn’t returned many punts at North Carolina A&T. If Mitch Trubisky was the most exciting part of Thursday night’s 24-17 loss, Cohen was No. 2. There might not be a No. 3. The Bears want to find creative ways to get the ball in Cohen’s hands — be it on inside runs, outside tosses, pass plays or punt returns. “He’s a fabulous spark,” left tackle Charles Leno said after Cohen had seven carries for 39 yards. “He’s lightning in a bottle, I would say. He’s quick, agile and really hard to tackle and see out there for defenses. Good for us.” After wowing his teammates in camp, Cohen didn’t shy away from contact in his first NFL preseason game — telling, considering his size. His first NFL hit felt good, he said. “I like to think of myself as like a spark plug,” he said. “Wherever the offense is at, if we’re struggling, I want to come in and get everybody motivated, have that one spark play. It might spark somebody else to have [one].

lol, tarik is getting some press for making that court long basket in corbett. the chicago media jokes that the nba chicago "bulls" should consider signing cohen to play point guard... www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chicagoinc/Tarik Cohen adds to 'Human Joystick' legend in basketball video
By Phil Thompson•Contact Reporter Chicago TribuneApparently Tarik Cohen doesn't just perform eye-popping stunts on the football field. The Bears rookie running back showed he has basketball skills, too, launching a nearly full-court shot and making the basket in a new video on circulating on Twitter. "The Human Joystick" became a viral sensation two years ago when he was featured in a YouTube video catching two footballs simultaneously while doing a back-flip. In the recent basketball video, Cohen beats his chest and yells, "I do everything! I do everything!" after making the shot. Chicago sports blogger Aldo Soto tweeted, "#Bears running back Tarik Cohen could easily be the #Bulls starting PG this season too." Cohen replied, "Tell em to give me a 10 day contract ! Lol" plthompson@chicagotribune.com

Man...let's just pray that he stays healthy. i think he will. one of the things i noticed in his first preseason game was that he didn't lower his shoulder to challenge any lb's or safeties like he did in the meac. he did a very good job of protecting himself and avoiding "unnecessary" hits, not that he shied away from contact per se'. on his punt return, he got as much yardage as he could and then ran out of bounds which was the smart thing to do. i believe he picked up 17 yards on that punt return, though he slightly "bobbled the ball" when he caught it...

looks like the nickname "the human joystick" is sticking (no pund intended) in chicago. and to be honest, i didn't like it at first, but now it has grown on me.
so now i hope that nickname sticks permanently because his classmates from a&t gave him that name and in a sense, it would honor them as well as the university if that name sticks permanently...

THE KID and will always be THE KID. The NFL has already had a Human Joy Stick player. I'm sticking with THE KID.
