We're in a dead period until the start of football, so here's a thread to start looking at the known men's basketball signees for 2017-2018 and who they're replacing. I'll post one per day over the next couple of weeks. What this thread is NOT is for:
- Complaints over Coach Joyner's awful record from last season - Griping over Coach Alexander's performance over the previous 4 years - Concerns over facility enhancements & basketball funding - Complaints over the AD & Chancellor's handling of the basketball program -------------------------------------------------------------------------
That said, the first signee is from the fall.... Mohammed Abubakar, a 6'8" 215 lb forward from Eagles Landing, GA. He's replacing the scholarship spot previously held by Nick Reese.
Mohammed is at 0:15, 1:57 and 2:13 in the video below:
If you have any other clips or info on Mohammed or any other player that is posted, feel free to add it to the thread.

Another commit is 6'4" SG Kwei Lartey from Spartanburg Methodist College (JUCO). The video is from the previous season. He has 2 years remaining. www.gosmcpioneers.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/bios/larty_kwei_gglr?view=career&pos=bcHe originally signed with Armstrong State and played there as a freshman with some pretty good credentials and resume and then transferred to Spartanburg Methodist last season when it was announced that Armstrong would shut down their athletic programs because of their state legislative mandated merger with Georgia Southern. This kid was a "sleeper" out of Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Ga. and was a solid freshman at Armstrong State in 2015 but really blossomed last year as a JUCO (15.5 pts, 5.9 rebs., and 3 assists per game) . I think we found us a pretty versatile and experienced two guard to replace Huint. Come on old school you if anyone coaching AAU and referring can give a good qualified opinion on what you are seeing . frisco, i've been burned too many times in the past. don't get me wrong, i'm definitely hoping for the best. but i've been hoping for the best for more than 20 years now. so now, i'm just not gonna get all "geeked up" anymore until i see positive results on the basketball court. i'll still support the coach and the program as always, but just won't get all "geeked up" for a while. usually i'm the ultimate aggie optimist. but i feel like i've been "the boy who cried wolf" for many many years only to be disappointed in the end (except for 2013). so i'm gonna "low key it" for a while with the men's program until its safe to restore our bragging rights again. but at least i can hang my hat on beating the buzzards 3 out of the last 4 times we've played them...

Not letting you off the hook that easy...I am not making any statements on the teams potential success only what I see with the attributes of individual recruits

Listen to OSA on this one......I don't give 2 cents on how this recruit or that recruit looks on AAU/workout footage. When it's DI gametime, the clock is running, and pregame/in-game preparation is of the essence......how do they look then?
I guarantee you - every MEAC and DI squad can put together similar footage of every recruit they have as well......this stuff doesn't tell me much at all. No one predicted a 3-29 record last year after looking at all the AAU footage that was there for our consumption this time a year ago.
I'm not knocking any poster for posting any footage of a recruit we may get........but please don't make any inference about the future of Aggie basketball after looking at it.

The next known signee is Jalen Spicer, a 5'10" PG from NW Guilford here in Greensboro. He will be taking the scholarship spot previously held by James Whitaker. Spice and Kam Langley were both named to this year's NC East-West All Star Game in Greensboro next month.
This clips includes footage from this past AAU season with his CP3 squad and footage from the Josh Level All-Star Classic this past May, one of the highest level HS All-Star games on the East Coast this season. Notable players off the CP3 squad in the clip include Temple signee JP Moorman and NC State signee Lavar Batts.
This clip was from November 2015.

Yes...Every school in America can put together AAU footage on their recruits...thats the biggest part of a coaches evaluation. Maybe a coach has an opportunity to see a kid play a live AAU or high school game once or twice during the recruiting period. How else do you propose we evaluate talent? I think you are missing the point as these will be the players we are putting on the floor.....regardless I move on...

I'm more concerned about meshing the talent together, instilling team principles to best utilize that talent, and how that talent is being coached from day to day. We've all seen MEAC basketball for years. Usually, the talent disparity isn't huge from the top team to the bottom team. It comes down to how the team is coached and how well the team plays together.
Maybe others can, but I cannot look at AAU footage and say, "Hey, that dude has the talent necessary to increase our number of wins from 3 to 10."
My problem is not with the players we're putting on the floor.......the $25,000 question is do they know what to do WHEN THEY GET ON THE FLOOR, especially in a DI basketball environment?
