Joyner has vastly upgraded the point guard position in the last couple of days. I like the fact he's striking a balance with both HS kids (Pratt and Dotson) and JUCOs (Watson, McGowans, Wright). You can often times overload with transfers like NCCU has done after having a couple of nice years and then falling off badly last season.

I gotta give Joyner credit for his recruiting. He's at least filling in the gaps we need to be a complete team. Hopefully, all the parts can mesh together to make a cohesive team for 2016-17. Keep pushing forward.....

So far so good ! He's working on following up with a good class for 2017 as well. This could be the first year in a long time that the recruiting class will be in place by first signing period in November.

we still need a "big" or two that will have impact in the paint, preferably a "scoring" big who is 6'9" or taller...

Agreed....when it comes to big men, we're either gonna have to: 1) Find a "project" - ie. a 6'9 or 6'10 dude in the area with potential, but clearly isn't a finished product. 2) Find a JUCO or DI transfer stuck on the bench at another school.
It's possible, but not easy.

this is an article from two years ago when wright was still in high school here in the "dmv". chances are this dude can "ball" if he put up these kind of numbers in the dmv. dude was "averaging" 30ppg at the time this article was written... www.washingtonpost.com/news/recruiting-insider/wp/2014/01/16/national-collegiate-guard-danzel-wright-piling-up-points/National Collegiate guard Danzel Wright is averaging 30.4 points per game this season, and has scored 78 in his last two appearances. By Roman Stubbs January 16, 2014The surprise of the year for National Collegiate came on Jan. 4, when the team bus got a flat tire on the way to a game against Forestville in Hagerstown. The game was pushed back, and by the time the Panthers had arrived, there was no time to warm up. That wasn’t a problem for National Collegiate guard Danzel Wright, who scored 22 first-quarter points. Forestville had just 11 in the first eight minutes. “What he did that game, that first quarter, I’m not going to lie to you,” National Collegiate Coach Sam Korpoi said, “that opened up my eyes, like, ‘Wow.'”
Wright finished with 40 points and five assists in the 77-53 win. It was a career high in points for Wright, but it was a scoring burst that has become commonplace the past two seasons at National Collegiate (7-4). He averaged 22.3 points per game as a junior, and poured in 25 points or more in 12 games. He’s averaging 30.4 points per game in 10 games this season — with 78 points in his last two games, including a 38-point performance in a 91-64 win over Perry Street Prep on Tuesday.Wright has hit 12 three-pointers in his last two appearances, including seven in the win over Forestville, and his outside shooting opens up his most effective offensive move. He calls it “the hesitation,” a move that most of his opponents expect, but struggle to stop. He floats in front of his defender as he is about to shoot, then attacks the basket as the defender bites. Long workout sessions over the summer to perfect his three-point shot and pull-up mid-range game has only made the move more effective. “I gash people with that move every game, even people that know,” said Wright, who has gained interest from Fairfield, Delaware State and Bowie State. “As soon as my junior year was over, the season was over, I didn’t even wait until the summer. I just got right to work. Every day I was working on improving my jump shot. I feel like that’s what took my game to another level.” Wright is getting to the line a lot, too. He’s averaging nearly eight free throw attempts per game and is shooting 85 percent. National Collegiate is 4-0 in Public Charter Athletic Association play, a league that Wright is confident his team can win and eventually make a run in the DCSAA playoffs. Like so many area players, Wright has paid his dues at several schools before finding a comfortable fit. he started his career at Carroll, then played his sophomore year at Perry Street Prep before transferring to National Collegiate. “I felt like I could always score like I’m scoring [now],” Wright said. “Coming to National Collegiate, it just gave me a chance to show my true ability.”

The only problem I see (stat-wise) is his FG% was only 37.6%. To me, that's too low. He averaged 20 points, but it sounds like it takes him 20 shots to get 20 points. I need a little better shooting accuracy from him when he comes to T.

I need a little better shooting accuracy from him when he comes to T. Wright was at 45% (43% from 3-pt) in 2015-16. So he improved. If he can stay in the 40ish% range, we've improved quite a bit if he can keep an A/TO ratio at about 1.5:1

Dgso, Both you and OSA.....ARE RIGHT. That was my mistake.....I was looking at the 2014-15 stats only. If he can remotely shoot 40-45% from the 3-point line, that would make him an all-MEAC player. I also like how he positively flipped his assist/turnover ratio from his 1st year to his 2nd year.
This is a good find. The fact he improved from his 1st year to his 2nd year is a positive sign and shows he's working on him game.....

45% shooting from the floor and 43% from 3 pt range for a true PG is definitely pretty good !! What is his asset to turnover ratio ! But he is not a PG "OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshman guard Danzel Wright averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals in the Cavaliers two road contests last week, and he was rewarded with his selection as the NJCAA Men’s Division II National Player of the Week for week 10.
Wright poured in a season high 29 points to lead Johnson County to a 60-55 win at Southeast Community College on Jan. 7, and followed with 21 points in a three-point loss at Independence Community College, Jan. 10.
Through 16 games this season, Wright leads the team and ranks tied for 24th in nationally with a points per game average of 20.1. He also leads the team with 35 3-point field goals, 87 free throws, .798 free throw percentage and 54 assists" SG is a better fit ! Don't we need a PG ?? We already have Sam Hunt who will play the point ??

Interchangeable parts..one and two are pretty much the same if both can handle the ball and both can score. That's the way the game is changing. Two guards, two athletes and big is the new trend.

We already have Sam Hunt who will play the point ?? sam is not a "true" pg, he's more so a natural 2 guard. but from what i can see, this kid wright has “pass first” point guard skills, but he can also score like a 2 guard. he should complement sam quite well as a pg i would think. but my concern is “scoring in the paint”. jumpers don’t always fall all the time and when they don’t, you need a “viable” scoring threat in the post. doesn’t have to be a center (though i’d prefer a scoring center), but a scoring power forward will suffice and we've got to have one or both if we're gonna have any success in the meac or otherwise...
