I'd like to see the MEAC/SWAC CHALLENGE become a 2-year, home-and-home agreement to open the season...and multiple teams involved each year.
With that being said, I'd love to see us involved with Southern and Jackson State, home-and-home to open the season.
But on another note, I want us to renew our series with Tennessee State in both football and basketball. I enjoyed being in that rivalry when Jim McKinley and Don Corbett were heading-up things.

I would prefer to play it at Aggie Stadium 6:00 pm start. Which SWAC opponent would be the best draw for our fans? Southern - connection Odums and his assistants Grambling - connection Fobbs and Broadway Jackson State - connection Wheeler and Meyers All three bands would be a draw from just general reputation. It would draw 16,000 at current ticket prices. The rest of the SWAC schools are relatively unknown to our casual fans.

I'd assume the casual fan also doesn't care about any of the connections we have with those schools. Name recognition and the band are what it's all about. I doubt the casual fan knows who any of those people are except Broadway. We've had Grambling up here once or twice in my memory (which doesn't go prior to 1990), and JSU up once. I don't remember Grambling being that well-attended (and I think it was Coach Rob's last game before the Bayou Classic too). JSU was packed. In fact I remember playing Jacksonville State University and people showing up because they thought it was Jackson State. The attendance thing is a two-sided coin. On the other side the SWAC schools have to be wondering which MEAC schools are the best draw for them. And I'm betting we ain't making the list. If we do, we make the list behind FAMU, Howard, SC Steat, and maybe even BCU and Hampton.

I'm with you Decks. The challenge cheapens the excitement of the Celebration Bowl. If the CB is to survive and grow, regular season competition between the 2 conferences needs to be brought down to a minimum in football. It can't be a novelty if we're playing one another during the regular season.

DOOMs I agree with you about FAMU,Howard and BCU depending on the region. But I think we would register more than Hampton and State with SWAC fans.

Man, those basketball games were very intense and usually came down-to-the-wire. Coach Corbett had a very good relationship with TnSU and their coaching staff. We were winning and had great crowds for most games back then, too.

In addition playing and beating TSU would raise your stock in the FCS polls. They have consistently been in Top 35 FCS poll slots.

It could help us in a tie breaker for the MEAC title and Celebration bowl bid. That why I am rooting for Alcorn State against Bethune Cookman. I would usually pull for the MEAC but we can't let Bethune get any tiebreaker points.

I think in the system in which we live in now as a conference, we are almost resigned to pull for the SWAC representative in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge because we have no MEAC Championship game.

Who doesn't like a good band in & out the stands.
