When I spoke to his father last year I don't think we have a chance but hey things can change. Hendon Hooker did not want to be compared to his father image his four years at A&T.
Its still nice to be mention along side with Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Virgina Tech. I just don't know how much I buy this explanation....... If he went to Pittsburgh.....he would be compared to Dan Marino. If he went to Notre Dame......he would be compared to Joe Montana or Tony Rice. If he went to Virginia Tech......he would be compared to Michael Vick, Marcus Vick or Tyrod Taylor. It doesn't matter where he goes......he's gonna be compared to past greats who played his position. I'll echo the same sentiments others have stated.....I wish him the best wherever he goes. Nevertheless, it must be stated that HBCUs will never be top-level in any sport if top-level brothas and sistas continue to shun us for other institutions. If we cannot gain a top recruit who was raised in an Aggie home, when will we ever get top-level recruits??? I'm not saying that to guilt-trip Hooker or any other athlete......but it's an issue that needs to be raised. One last thing.....the top-ranked QB to be drafted this year ain't coming from Pittsburgh, Notre Dame or Virginia Tech.......he's coming from FCS North Dakota State. If you are good and you have the goods.....the NFL will find you, irrespective of college or divisional status. Let me go on record that on many occasions I have agreed with NSS. Now for the Hendon question...Over the years I've learn that it almost impossible to figure out why kids do what they do. In a way, they may be a lot like us adults...they make a decision then make up some reasons they think will validate that decision. It's like the reason we buy a certain car...we justify the decision based on its gas mileage and rating in Consumer Reports magazine, but in reality we bought it because we think we'll look cool driving it and it will impress our golf buddies. We will never know why this or any kid really picks a college but that shouldn't stop us from trying to recruit them. I'd love to have him suit up for A&T but I understand that he might not. I wish Hendon well no matter where he goes to college but we will continue to win games with or without him.

Let's be honest here.
Try to honestly disregard what you know now and take yourself back to when you were 17 or 18.
Pretend you were a top-level (or even mid-level) athlete that was getting offers from the majors.
You going to A&T?
I'll be honest. I would be at Georgia Tech or UGA, period. A&T wouldn't get a sniff from me with my mindset the way it was back then. Now if the recruiting was between A&T and like WCU or Wofford or something, A&T would have a chance. But against the big boys? Naaaaaaah.
Knowing what I know now, heck yeah I'd have most likely gone to Ayantee. But I'm 43, I actually went to A&T, I've lived my life. At 17 I didn't know isht and I wasn't really about to listen to what anybody told me regarding where I should go unless it made good sense to me at that point in my life. At 17 what made good sense to me was parties, notoriety, womens, and can I get home via car within six hours. I didn't know what I wanted to major in or what I wanted to do with my life. I ain't even care. I just wanted some parties, notoriety, and womens.
The first time I visited UGA as a teen was during my freshman year at A&T. I immediately looked to transfer. A&T didn't have the bells and whistles to compare. Luckily my parents were like "hell no." I'd done been seent Georgia Tech numerous times but I wanted to get away from home.
Y'all think Carson Wentz would've gone to NDSU if Minnesota or Wisconsin had come calling? I don't know and can't say, but I doubt it. NDSU got a diamond in the rough, just like we often have to do. Herndon Hooker simply ain't in no rough whatsoever.
Reality is reality, which is why while I'd really like for the young man to be a second-generation Aggie, I understand the many reasons he may not choose to be.

Being raised in an Aggie home should have nothing to do with his decision! Let Mr Hooker make up his own mind ! I loved the hell out of A&T but it was not the right fit for me coming out of high school from a Football and Track point of view ! Something I had to find out the hard way so I transferred after finding out I had other offers, that were not presented to me by my high school coaches. But Mr Hooker doesn't have that problem because Kids now days are a lot more knowledgeable about the recruiting game then we were back then because coaches do not have the influence in dictating where a kid should or should not go. Mr Hooker will do what is best for Mr Hooker with the help from family but in the end it is his Decision good or bad he will have to own it.

Despite the odds, there's a mini-social media campaign on Facebook that you can like and share how you feel about Hendon possibly committing to A&T:

if you ever have an opportunity to tour the facilities at one of these bcs schools, you'll know like i do why its such a "no brainer" choice to pick a bcs school over an hbcu. i still find it amazing that an athlete like denzel keyes turned down odu which isn't a bcs school but is not far from having bcs level facilities...

What good would ODU's facilities have been to Keyes if the Monarch football program doesn't run an offense that is predicated to his strengths/talents?? You are a facilities (what somebody has) person...... Those facilities are a moot point if you ain't gonna get playing time. Every QB on the roster ain't gonna be passing on Saturday. Every running back ain't gonna get a carry on Saturday. It's cool to tell everybody you're going to Alabama or Notre Dame or Michigan.........but when the freshman and sophomore seasons roll around and the waterboy is getting as much playing time as you are on the field, how have those amenities at Big School U help get you to the next level? For every Deshawn Watson (Clemson), there are DeShawn Jenkinses out there ( ie. Good QB's riding the pine at Big School U). At the end of the day, if a player is truly serious about football being his way out, he has to make sure he is in the right environment/situation to thrive. For the record.......WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT HERE DOES NOT PERTAIN TO HERNDON HOOKER. I'M SPEAKING IN GENERAL TERMS......

It's few and very far between but this ain't black & white.

In Herndon's case every school on his list is power five 'cept us.
There's almost next to nothing else these schools have in common beyond being power five. That's what's so weird about his reported choices. He must have close relationships with the people recruiting him at those schools.
On his recruiting video he said he wanted to be an orthodontist. That's funny cause growing up in Metro Atlanta my dentist was an Aggie. His nephew (also an Aggie) ended up taking over the practice...
I'm jus sayin...

It's few and very far between but this ain't black & white. wca, there’s always exceptions to every rule. but the “vast majority” of kids will choose that bcs school over an hbcu i’m guessing around 97% of the time, if not more. i mean, as much as i would like to say that a significant number of athletes would choose an hbcu over a bcs school, i simply can’t because it ain’t true. i think hbcu’s have a legit shot at signing 3 star recruits, don’t mean we’ll sign them but we’ll at least have a shot. but 4 and 5 star recruits are pretty much out of our range unless we run across that extremely rare breed who would prefer an hbcu over a bcs school. mind you, most bcs schools are now offering “fcoa” that range in the multi-thousands of dollars per school year. i personally don’t know of “any” athlete who would turn down “free and clear” and “legal” thousands of dollars to put in their pockets on top of everything else that comes with playing at a bcs school. i mean, let’s keep hope alive! but let’s be “realistic” while we’re at it...
