Dudley's Hooker to announce college choice ThursdayGREENSBORO — Dudley's Hendon Hooker, one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the Class of 2017, will announce his college choice Thursday at the high school. Hooker has a final list of Missouri, N.C. A&T, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech. His announcement will be streamed live, beginning at 6 p.m., on ESPN Triad Radio. A 6-foot-4, 200-pound junior, Hooker was an HSXtra All-Area first-team selection in 2015. He completed 127 of 198 passes for 2,234 yards with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions for the Panthers. He also rushed 122 times for 1,217 yards and 15 TDs. Hooker helped lead Dudley to the NCHSAA Class 4-A West Regional final. Scout rates him as a four-star recruit, while 247 Sports and Rivals consider him a three-star. All three recruiting services rank Hooker as one of the top 22 dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. The son of former N.C. A&T great Alan Hooker, Hendon is also an outstanding basketball player at Dudley, but will focus on football — at least initially — at the college level.

When I spoke to his father last year I don't think we have a chance but hey things can change. Hendon Hooker did not want to be compared to his father image his four years at A&T.
Its still nice to be mention along side with Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Virgina Tech.

well, the other schools may not be willing to allow him to play two sports. clearly that's not a problem at a&t, but comparing us to the other schools he listed, that's probably not enough to win him over...

I spoke with Allen during GHOE. The family seemed to enjoy our atmosphere.

Its still nice to be mention along side with Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Virgina Tech. I just don't know how much I buy this explanation....... If he went to Pittsburgh.....he would be compared to Dan Marino. If he went to Notre Dame......he would be compared to Joe Montana or Tony Rice. If he went to Virginia Tech......he would be compared to Michael Vick, Marcus Vick or Tyrod Taylor. It doesn't matter where he goes......he's gonna be compared to past greats who played his position. I'll echo the same sentiments others have stated.....I wish him the best wherever he goes. Nevertheless, it must be stated that HBCUs will never be top-level in any sport if top-level brothas and sistas continue to shun us for other institutions. If we cannot gain a top recruit who was raised in an Aggie home, when will we ever get top-level recruits??? I'm not saying that to guilt-trip Hooker or any other athlete......but it's an issue that needs to be raised. One last thing.....the top-ranked QB to be drafted this year ain't coming from Pittsburgh, Notre Dame or Virginia Tech.......he's coming from FCS North Dakota State. If you are good and you have the goods.....the NFL will find you, irrespective of college or divisional status.

For once I actually agree with superstar. "For once"........I'm not saying I'm batting 1.000, but there is more than this subject I promise you would agree with me on if you took the time to read and absorb what I'm saying.

Although unlikely, imagine the ruckus this could make in college football if he picks the smaller school in Aggieland over the ACC and SEC schools listed.

I think one of the things we have to consider is the vantage point of the 17 year-old high school athlete in the social media age. What is attractive to them? And can an HBCU provide that? And if we attempt to answer that question through our viewpoint and not view it through theirs.... we won't succeed in getting upper-tier student athletes. Part of it is resources. Part of it is social media. Part of it is that HBCU attendees (as a whole) don't prioritize athletics the way that PWIs do. It's a challenge to increasing our athletics' profile.

It's nice of him to put us in his finalist list
As far as being compared to his daddy, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Tony Rice, Michael Vick, Marcus Vick, and Tyrod Taylor ain't no relation to him. trues plainly said he did not want to be compared to "his father image." Which says to me he would rather make a name for himself elsewhere than to have to constantly hear "his daddy was better" or "he way better than his daddy" or anything about his daddy. He wants to be his own man.
When you can choose where you want to go amongst a bunch of top-tier institutions, then you can pick based on any number of reasons beyond the football program itself. I wouldn't knock him for exploring other places, although none of the schools listed are in locations that would interest me ('cept maybe Notre Dame). But he ain't me.
This much we all but know: If he chooses another school and it doesn't work it, it's all but guaranteed he'll be at Ayantee if he transfers.

Here is also something a player like Hooker can think about: There have been an increasing amount of FCS players getting called up by Power-5 schools.

I agree with NSS "...HBCUs will never be top-level in any sport if top-level brothas and sistas continue to shun us for other institutions." I will just add "academic endeavor" in addition to sport. As long as HBCU's accept second, then we will always be a distant fifth. If I remember correctly, I think former WR Doug Brown had offers form Florida but chose to attend A&T. I understand the pull of big-time college football and the pomp and pageantry that is appealing. However, having attended a few major NCAA events, I just do not see the average African-America graduate of these big-time schools supporting their alma mater's in large numbers after graduation. For example, I went down to the Orange Bowl for Oklahoma v. Clemson (YES I WAS AT THE CB TOO!) and I swear that out of 67k in attendance, there was no more than 1K African-Americans and 500 of those were player family members.
