Per footballscoop:
Southern University: North Carolina A&T State outside linebackers coach Trei Oliver has accepted the defensive coordinator position, per source.
Congrats to Coach Oliver.

Sign of a good program. Your position coaches go on to take coordinator positions at other universities.

Congratulations to Coach Oliver!
I guess that Southern saw what a real defense looks like while watching the Celebration Bowl game, huh?

can’t be mad at a dude for taking a promotion and most likely a higher paying job. besides, that’ll be one less central grad on our staff which is absolutely fine with me. i guess that may be what gave him an advantage to earn the job since odums is also a central alum...

Southern head coach Odums fired three of his defensive assistants & also lost another assistant via resignation to take a coordinator job at Jackson State.

Coach Oliver knows DBs and LBs like the back of his hand. If he can match up with a very good DL coach... he can turn Southern's defense around relatively quickly.

welp, i believe that only leaves one more central alum on our staff. i always wondered what it must feel like being a central alum but coaching for your archrivals. not so much when he’s coaching against schools other than nccu, but i wonder what must be going thru his head when we play central. i know for me, i’d have a very difficult time coaching against a&t if i was on central’s staff.
i dunno, maybe its different when your salary depends on it. i could see coaching for central against other schools if that was my job. but from the outside looking in, i just think i’d have a very hard time switching my loyalties to the other side if i had to coach against a&t...

Well clearly we lost a good talent evaluator, Oliver is the guy who insisted Broadway go see Cohen in person leading to his only D1 football scholarship offer. Congrats sir

Didn't seem to bother Hayes.

Didn't seem to bother Hayes. in my opinion, that’s absolutely true. hail, and if i didn’t know any better, i’d go so far to say that hayes actually craved beating central seemingly as much as we did. i never quite understood where his fire came from to beat central, but obviously i was glad he had it. heck, i can’t speak for nobody else, but i’m too much of a “loyalist” to have the same attitude hayes had when he played against his alma mater...

Me too.
Unless my alma mater was central.
There was an interview that thrilla did with Hayes some years back where he asked him about that. I'll see if I can find it and post the link...
