I didn't understand Hampton's strategy of not using gunners on their punts. This allowed K. Gardin to catch the ball unencumbered by any pressure, allowed us set up the wall every time because we didn't have to dedicate players to gunners split wide. None was more evident than Gardin's 4th Otr. punt return with the score tied. He doesn't catch the ball on the fly, but let's it bounce, because there was no gunners he had time to pick the ball up, look up field (make a phone call, sign autographs) before he started run. With gunner in his face I don't think he picks that ball up. What is rule on punts when you don't splits gunner wide? Can the players on the line leave the line of scrimmage before the ball is punted?
Shout out to the Aggies that showed up, once again we out numbered the Hampton (un)faithful. Sunny and 75 degrees, baby!

The interior guys have to hold until the ball is kicked. Maynor really didn't have an answer in his post game comments other that they didn't do a very good job of covering or kicking away from Gardin. He said that his punter was aiming to kick it out of bounds but shanked it. That still doesn't explain the fact that Hampton allowed him an uncontested corridor to a open field ten yards into return. Any foot race to the end zone was virtually over by the time he hit his own 40 yard line.
I, like you, can't understand even after the first couple of times he almost broke returns, they didn't adjust one thing.

Those were really smart returns by Gardin without a gunner most returners would have tried to catch the edge which is possible but when a returner kicks it outside your wall is gone as defenders are running side to side as opposed to straight up the field.

You can bet Norfolk will have folks flying down the field on every punt and kickoff this Saturday! Weather should be great for the game but if we don't fix our pass defense, it will be raining (footballs) on our side of the field. Norfolk worries me...hell to be honest, they all worry me. But our schedule gets progressively tougher as the season goes on. We can make a statement to the league if we spank Norfolk. Hope we've got a better game plan to stop their passing QB.

I know it was homecoming, but Norfolk struggled with Howard and was only able to score 15 points. That was an eye-opener to me. I went to our game vs Howard last year......their defense was horrendous. Hopefully, Norfolk's offense is just as marginal this week as it was this past week.

Did I hear an optimistic comment from NSS? I'm starting to feel a little better about this week now. I guess I heard about how awful we played last week and started to overthink the Norfolk game. I have to keep reminding myself that Broadway will have them ready to play next Saturday. They will not be perfect but they will get the job done. Thanks NSS for lifting my spirits.

Everybody relax. The defense will play better. Hampton is the best Offensive team we will see this season. Especially there vertical attack. Norfolk Qb is good but he doesn't throw the deep ball like Hampton's QB. We are still banged up on D. Our signal caller on D did not play vs Hampton. Denzel Jones will be back vs Norfolk. Without him the LB's lined up late and were out of position on a few plays. Mcrae is also banged up. He played hurt. He will be fine. I have a feeling that the MEAC will have a bunch of wild weekends. Hopefully our Aggies just win. I don't care if it is an ugly win.

Great point NSS : We should be able to run on Norfolk . Get the running game going and pound Norfolk, Hampton/Howard abandon the run and went to the pass too early, we can not afford to do that controlling the play can only work in favor of A&T. What concerns me the most is the backup running backs not getting enough playing time and giving The Kid a breather when needed with out losing momentum ! Also A&T has to show more diversity on offense, (at least show a different formation or Set, if you are going to run the same play's time and time again) We are becoming predictable on offense to the point that opposing teams know who we're going to throw the ball to or hand it to based on the formation or set that we are in. We also must get more of a rush from the D-line expecially in the middle, LB's played a fair game from my opinion, but the secondary continues to have the same problem as last year. You cannot let a receiver get behind you on deep routs I can deal with a underneath catch but getting beat deep is some thing that should not happen, so get it together secondary !
