A quality product for your library. Put on your ghoe shopping list. 125 years of N.C. A&T: University publishes a pictorial history
By John Newsom john.newsom@greensboro.comGREENSBORO — In 125 years, N.C. A&T State University has produced thousands of graduates but only one official history. Now, make it two. Two A&T professors have written a pictorial history of the university that’s part of the university’s year-long anniversary celebration. The 280-page coffee-table book documents the evolution of a school from a college annex in Raleigh with 37 students to a modern, comprehensive university in Greensboro with nearly 11,000 students. Vicki Coleman, A&T’s dean of library services, said several alumni had lobbied the university for years to produce a comprehensive, up-to-date history of the institution. The first A&T history book was written by former university president Warmoth Gibbs for the school’s 75th anniversary in 1966. “With the 125th anniversary, we just thought it was the appropriate time” for an updated work, said Coleman, who oversaw the project.... I love the fact that they decided to tell our 125 year history in pictures. I'm looking forward to seeing all the old campus pictures...the students and buildings. I've spent days in the Archive Department in Bluford Library looking for old A&T pictures. It will be great to have a whole book of pictures. Put the book with the video "Our Pride, Our Future" of our history and you have it all.
I noticed that in all the ads for the book, they don't mention the price. I can only assume it must be rather pricey! Guess I'll have to wait for my social security check to come in to buy one. I agree with MtHollyAggie, this is a must book for every die-hard Aggie to have.

$39.99, wow that's reasonable. I was expecting a price over $100! Well my sister and my close Aggie friends know what they're getting from me this Christmas,
As for the old band picture, I found this picture buried in a box in Blufford library archive department several years ago. I was putting together a scrap book history of the A&T band. I love this picture because it has A&M College on the bass drum. I also found one of the ROTC band from the WWI era.
I'm going through campus tomorrow on my way to chapel Hill so I'll get my history book then.

I got mine! I picked up my copy of "Mens et Manus" on my way through Greensboro to Chapel Hill. I sat in my car for about 30 minutes in front of the A&T bookstore looking at the pictures and reading the stories. Not only does it have great pictures, the authors did a lot of research to make sure the data was accurate.
If you're a die-hard Aggie, you have got to have a copy!

For instance....being a young Aggie (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)......I thought Michelle Obama was the first First Lady to grace our campus. Not so! There is a picture of President Bluford escorting First lady Eleanor Roosevelt around campus in 1945. This book is very well put together and is definitely a conversation starter!
