Yes where Dez ran mostly straight, this kid ran zig-zag all over the place, like Cohen

Had full scrimmage yesterday with REF's on the main field. Quick ran most running pays, while Raynard did much of the passing. But the star of the show was No. 81(Gabriel Caleb) that made Three TD's. He is WR that when gets the ball on passing plays, runs lake Cohen, no one came close of geting him. At the end, they let Raynard just pass the ball. The way it looks Quick will run the running plays, and Raynard would do mostly passing plays. The Offence line needs a lot of work on running plays. Cohen did not play. I don't think they are going to be that telegraphed with their play calls.

As far as the run game goes, the running backs also have to learn how to run behind a zone blocking scheme. It's a little bit different and has to be learned just as the blocking techniques do. But when it works, it is a thing of beauty.

But when it works, it is a thing of beauty. Is it that the backs are new or is it that the line needs time to gel? From my understanding, this blocking scheme isn't new as we were pretty much a read option team the last two seasons.

Sounds to me like they were trying to finalize a playbook and get a few final looks at particular players doing specific things.
About the QBs. I've told a few people that considering the situation we have at QB I wouldn't object to a 2 QB system for just one year. I normally hate it, but it seems like it's about to happen. Based on what the defense does I would expect to see both QBs this year in multiple games.

I love our running game, but if we don't stretch the field we will be way to predictable. Although Shaw is no push over, it will be good to go up against a lesser team to work out the extra kinks on the O-line. We NEED the front line to gel. We will live or die in the trenches.

But when it works, it is a thing of beauty. The running backs have to have patience and run with vision in a zone blocking scheme.most of your good backs will make the adjustment but patience is the key. Also the two quarterback system it's fine but both quarterbacks will have to mix in the run and also the pass. you just can't have a quarterback come in in a passing situation and pass the ball, they have to be able to do both to keep the defense on their heels.

This talk about the offensive line is concerning me...we need that to get fixed very soon, if not already. As far as the Qbs, I see both getting playing time in game 1 and 2, maybe 3. But, by the time the conference schedule begins, one of the quarterbacks should have been able to separate himself as the number 1 guy with this new offense. But, that doesn't necessarily mean that the number 1 guy will get ALL of the snaps either. So, we shall see.

From my understanding, this blocking scheme isn't new as we were pretty much a read option team the last two seasons. The backs are new. When Cohen didn't play it could have made it even more noticeable. Young backs are usually eager to hit the hole fast particularly when trying to prove themselves and as Saabman said it takes a little more patience when zone blocking because you have to wait while the running lane develops. It can look like there was no blocking but what really happened is that the back ran up the backs of the offensive linemen due to impatience. It's all conjecture on my part though given I wasn't at the scrimmage, but I looked at almost every play from last year on video and saw what it took to run behind that blocking scheme. It's counter intuitive to what backs are usually taught.

Week 1 - Raynard has won the starting job which he already had way back in the spring even with Quick being reinstated.
