Cohen had 36 catches over 2 years. For a back that was not the starter about 2/3s that time the number is not bad. Especially if you consider the number of carries he had. Even though most were probably screen routes, he is very capable of running routes. And as you can see by the videos he is very capable of catching the ball. Great part is, with the additions at WR he shouldn't even have to.
Its going to be a great year with him back there and an upgraded WR core.

On a funny note. When ya boy came in for the shoulder bump after Cohen's catch and had to play it off...............hahaha!

That kid's a freaky of nature for real. Simply amazing hand eye coordination. Whether we throw him the ball more or not you can see that he can catch the danged thing.
It does look like he's put on a few pounds. That being typed I don't think he's even close to 5'8". If he's blessed enough to get a combine invite I'm betting they'll measure him at 5'6".
He kinda puts me in the mind of Noel Devine from WVU. I'm hoping his career trajectory doesn't go like Devine's. When WVU ran that spread that Rich Rodriguez ran, Devine was averaging over six yards per carry. They switched to a pro-set with the short passing game and he dropped to 4.5 his senior year. He did have his best year in terms of pass reception yardage that year.
But to me he's no longer going to have to prove he can catch to the pros. Some might see the videos as clowning around and doing something he'll never do in a game. I see it as savvy marketing. He's just shown incredible body control and hand-eye coordination to every NFL scout.
Kid's not only athletic, he's smart.

My post was towards comparing that physical feat to an actual football play., not knocking the hustle. When we are playing in the Celebration Bowl in December, I'm sure ESPN will be showing those flips on an endless loop. He might even make an appearance on Game Day or First Take.

My comment wasn't directed at you Haze. I saw online where people posted a lot of "he'll never do that in a game" comments under the clip.
Although I am leery about the switch to a short passing game in that it will allow people to key in on him more, if he continues to average those ridiculous per carry numbers in the switch, it'll be all very good.

i dunno, i think "occasionally" moving cohen to the slot can throw some teams off. i mean, moving cohen to the slot occasionally can be used as a "decoy". if the defense bites and keys on cohen, direct the ball to another weapon. if the defense doesn't bite, look for cohen in an underneath pattern or even down field if they put a safety or linebacker on him...

It's funny, but we have already done everything everyone is talking about "trying" to do with Cohen. Cohen was keyed on last season and he'll be keyed on again this season. How many different ways we use him really depends on other guys stepping up. If our WRs step up and make people pay then he'll get his screens and underneath routes that everyone is talking about. If the QB is accurate when passing to WRs then that will also help Cohen get off. If they don't step up (for example... SCSU last year) then he wont get off so easily. It's really that simple. As Dooms has stated, he has shown EVERYONE that he can catch. He doesn't have to prove that during the season anymore. Brilliant job of marketing and informal recruiting. Hats off to the young man or whomever suggested this type of Instagram campaign.

i don't think we should move cohen around just to prove something. to me, i think it'll be necessary just to keep our opponents off balanced and also to give cohen a little experience running routes. great hands do you no good if you can't run disciplined routes.
to me, "occasionally" putting him in the slot helps the team in terms of game strategy and it also helps cohen in terms of developing route running skills. i don't think it would be a good idea for him to wait until after he graduates to start thinking about running pass patterns. i think he can get away with not returning a bunch of punts or kicks in college because i think that's a skillset that's easier to learn than running precise routes. i wouldn't wanna go cold turkey into nfl tryouts having never experienced running a pass pattern (not bubble screens) in a game...

Some of the attention by way of social media, and forums like this are a great way to reach the community as well as the world, but still there is a chance to ride this in a way to make us grow.

They have been communicating with our Aggie connect with ESPN in Bristol. Don't be shocked if we see Tarik going through the ESPN CarWash this fall, especially if he is putting up major numbers on TV. BTW: which games will be on ESPN this fall?
