Hey... this is durhamgsoaggie.... welcome to the board! I do think Jones' experience in handling play calls is important. I also think there's a good reason why you don't ask Jones to play in man when Tarik Cohen is in the game. Zone is supposed to keep everything in front of you, but the LBs still have to have enough reaction speed to limit the YAC. Cohen gaining 44 yards receiving on underneath routes on essentially one drive isn't exactly what I call limiting YAC. And Jones was in for that drive. In the games we lost last year (Coastal, SCSU, NCCU), we averaged 200 yards rushing per game and got gashed underneath and up the seams in the passing game. Denzel struggled in all of those games. I think Julian McKnight in the DT rotation makes us much more formidable against the run and pass up the middle. The secondary looks much more reactive and quicker with a year of experience under their belt. I believe that Tony McRae is going to have an excellent year at CB. But the most important position on the field is arguably MLB. Denzel Jones is a great story. I saw improvement from him on Saturday. The question I have is whether the improvement enough to get us to 8-0 in the MEAC? The real test for that will be the Elon game on 9/19 prior to the bye week and the start of MEAC play. If Denzel can truly raise his level of play and take away the middle of the field... this defense is talented enough to allow 14 ppg against non-FBS competition next year. That should be good enough to run the table in the MEAC. But SCSU and NCCU gameplanned to attack the middle of the field on us last year, and I don't expect that to change when we see them this year. They are also going to go after the young CBs opposite of McRae. The youngsters will just have to be ready. It sounds like it's Denzel's time to shine... I'm hoping that he makes it happen! I agree he didn't play well in those games. Cohen would make 95% of the Lbs in fcs look bad imo. Time will only tell. I would like to see the front four get more pressure on the Qb without having to blitz. We barely touched the qb in the games we lost lat year and if we got pressure it was because we blitz. We all knows what hapens when you blitz and it doesn't get there.

wow! i'm very pleased to hear that amos williams will get a look at the rb position! dude ran a 4.33 forty coming out of high school and reminded me a lot of tarik cohen. they moved him to cb last season, but since cartwright is now gone, i guess they decided to give him another look on offense and i'm happy that they did!
even though dez graduates this year, we're still gonna have a ton of "speed" on our roster this upcoming season. i luv having "multiple" threats on offense that can take it to the house from anywhere on the field...

And I think that underneath route to the RB just might be the most important piece we've added to our offense this year. I just think that Reynolds (once he figures out the difference in game speed and complexity) is in that 5% talent-wise to really be a game-changer at MLB.....no disrespect to Denzel Jones at all. Pass rush.... we were actually better at pass rush in 2014 than in 2013. We did blitz more, though. And I agree... if the blitz doesn't get there... it's not a good day. I think adding McKnight into the mix, especially on obvious passing downs, will help that. McKnight and Ragland inside together along with an improved Angelo Keyes and D'Anthony Ross on 3rd and long? I think we have a shot at getting the 4-man rush we desire this year. We'll see...

Also i can tell that alot of the guys took on the challenge to personally get better this year. I cant wait for the season to start.

Yea, I just saw the article about Quick on Facebook so the whole world knows now. I had heard a rumor that he had a DWI but now I realize it's worst than that. The first question I had ...after I said WTF, was why? Why would a kid in his senior year on a football scholarship do something so stupid? We've had players do some dumb siht but man, this is unbelievable!

MB69:
I feel you but remember any of us could have taken the wrong turn during our days @ T…..some of us gets caught and others don't.
I am in no way condoning this behavior but young folks make mistakes….
When I told my wife about this incident, she said wisdom is a pure form of maturity….it can't be taught in books nor learned on the streets.
It is something people go thru , learn from and hopefully grow from.
At this point, we should lend our support to Quick and hopes he gets his life together….then this becomes his true wisdom!

I said the same thing about Kindle last year. we forget sometimes that these kids have not experienced life yet. it should be expected that they would make mistakes this early in their lives...
