I think this debate in now beyond the bowl game. It's now about the future of the football program and its existence in the MEAC. The bowl game is now just one of many factors associated with either staying or departing the conference. As I spoke of a few years back, the AD mentioned to me that consideration.

What is and has always been the thing that hurts the brand of HBCU'S is not the football team or athletics or academic excellence. It's the outside image that other cultures precieve to be prevalent on HBCU campuses. those images a long are what is hurting the brand. Most knowledgeable prospective students and their parents look at the academic excellence but most unknowledgeable parents and in some cases students look at the more darker side as portrayed and the media when an incident happens on A HBCU campus . All parents white, black, Brown or yellow want their kids to be in a safe environment! When when you have fights, stabbing or shootings happens on campus or off campus that involved a student that is what affects your brand when it comes to recruiting individuals from the other races and culture.

All of you are making excellent points...Its clear we all just want what's best for the university. And that could be with or without the MEAC. I have faith Hilton/Martin will steer us in the right direction, campus is growing and soon we'll be an even major force to be dealt with in North Carolina. I believe & I'll let my wallet show it.

This is what was announced at tonight's AAF meeting about the Celebration Bowl:
1. Participating school gets 200,000 in complimentary tickets. 2. The remaining payout is 800,000 in cash. 3. The conference is still deciding whether the 800,000 will be split 80/20 or 70/30 between participating school and the conference. 4. Six year commitment.

Whoaaaa...........that deal sucks for the average MEAC team. You gotta sell tickets if you want to make money! Only sure way to make money is to not win the MEAC championship.

So we gotta between 4,000 - 5,000 tix @ $40 - $50 a pop to generate that $200,000 in revenue. That's not an easy task but it's not the worse part of the deal. This game is really designed for those schools that have big alumni bases within a 2-3 hour drive/flight of Atlanta.
And just for clarification: 20% of $800,000 = $160,000 30% of $800,000 = $240,000
At best, A&T can earn up to $440,000 in gross revenue from this game. However, between facilities and travel coming out of our pocket, we would only net only a small percentage of that amount.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if we had season ticket packages that had Celebration Bowl tickets.

How was this message received by the supporters in attendance? Please clarify "participating school" in #s 1& 3, is that the conference champ? Please clarify the split in terms of conference champ, MEAC HQ and conference schools. Does the conference champ get the 80 or 70 and the MEAC HQ and other schools split the 20 or 30?

This is a shockingly bad deal...is it 800k for both conferences combined?

Another thing....expenses paid by the schools can eat into the payouts considerably...

Hilton delivered the Q&A. It was not received well by the masses as you would expect. A lot of the details of this bowl still have not been divulged to the schools or at least not to A&T at this point. The MEAC won't give a copy of the deal to the schools because that would make it public record.

I know they couldn't have a vote on this without all of the major details being hashed out or at least discussed?

Looks to be incentive based, as well as bigger HBCU driven. That's not fair to some of the smaller schools and those institutions in the north (Howard, Morgan, Del State, Hampton and Norfolk)l. They have to travel further!
