Thanks west coast Aggie, I was going to post the same thing. The first game was in Miami and the second was in the Labor Day heat of Orlando. Apples and oranges comparison. 31k average over the last three years is not a bad number. That 31k average was done mostly with MEAC 2nd place teams which goes back to my original point that this game does not require our conference camp to do well. The common denominator of this game doing well seems to be the participation of Southern University.

Sorry Monster but that's not correct. Look at these attendance numbers and tell me what you see as the key to success for the HB? 1991Alabama St. s A&T.................7,7241992- GSU vs FAMU...................... 11,273 1993- Southern vs SCSU................. 36,128 1994 -GSU vs SCSU.........................22,179 1995 - Southern vs FAMU................25,164 1996 -Southern vs Howard................18,126 1997-Southern vs SCSU ....................32,629 1998 -Southern vs BCU......................32,955 1999 -Southern vs Hampton................29,561 14 MEAC/SWAC Challenge AAMU vs A&T........................8,700Obviously A&T's performance in these SWAC vsMEAC matchups doesn't excite our fans based on the two games we've participated in. That's important because each participating school will be required to sell an allotment of tickets. If we have 5,000 unsold tickets from our allotment guess who has to eat that cost? Based on historical performance we should be the last ones wanting to participate in this game. The only assumption that can be made after reading the attendance numbers is that the Networks and sponsors didn't like the MEAC sending its number 2 or 3 team to play the SWAC Champ. If they were going to keep kicking out the money for the game, they probably wanted both champs, period. Also, both of our classic/bowl games were played against a SWAC East team from Alabama in Florida. We would do better if we played a bowl game in Atlanta. The SWAC was the one who started the demand for champ vs champ. The last two games in 98 & 99 were televised by NBC and they never demanded a champ vs champ format. I know this because my wife was director of marketing for the local NBC affiliate at the time. The SWAC was just embarassed by SU losing to our #3 team in 1999 plust they've always wanted to market it as a BCF championship game.

After some self-reflection, I've come to the realization why I've been harping on moving to d-2 for so long (besides the obvious logical reasons).
It's because it's embarassing. I can't think of a meac team that has beaten a d-1 pwc that ended the season with a winning record since 2000 except for Norfolk beating Liberty in 2012 and Howard beating Charleston Southern in 2004. We've played dozens of games against pwcs in that time span. That's embarassing.
It gets more embarassing when people start woofing on message boards talking about "we had y'all scared" and "we have more fans than you" and "we sent more players to the pros" and "well, you have a larger budget and more alumni" and "we're closing the gap" all that crap. Excuses, excuses, excuses... WE LOSE OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
We look incredibly inferior on the field. And people get offended when pwc fans point out the fact that our teams are inferior and not competitive. We have no right to be offended. It is totally true. Our budgets are inferior, our ability to recruit across all races is inferior, our infrastructures are inferior... Hell, we can't even make a sound decision to move to a classification that matches our ability to compete, so our decision-making is inferior.
It bugs me to no end to see us continually spit in the wind like this. All it does is make us look worse and worse with each passing year. Meanwhile, in d-2 WSSU and VSU basically saved the face of hbcu football and the CIAA gets mad respect in basketball.

You could always write some phatter checks to A&T, and attempt to write them off on the taxes. If felt good being able to hold my own on AGS.com when it came to A&T football this year.

Like me writing fatter checks is going to make any difference whatsoever. For multiple years I gave 1,000 per year and watched us lose every time we played a half-decent pwc anyway. I now have three kids and a wife to support.
I don't really know what we did that allowed you to "hold your own on AGS.com when it came to A&T football this year." We beat a putrid Elon team and lost to Coastal. Whoopee. File that one under "we had y'all scared." At the end of the day the tally says we STILL have never beaten that team. If you can hold your own with that, more power to ya.

Thats been done before. Didn't work. The 2nd place MEAC team just wasn't a good draw. Everyone knew they were 2nd place or "not really the best" the MEAC had to offer. Sorry Monster but that's not correct. It could hvae been 45-50K in that stadium every year, but thats not what's going to make this bowl successful. It will be the TV viewership.

We can not have it both ways and by that I mean , Sending the saying 2nd place team to a championship bowl is just not the right action to take. You want viewers you put the best product on the field, and that is not you 2nd or 3rd place team. I feel that this Bowl can work if handled right..
