I thought by having a game day ticket to tailgate at the homecoming game would lower attendance and just make people angry. I was wrong. It bringing more dollars to A&T and help control the crowds a little at the tailgate area. Is there any way to even make it better?

Enhancing the benefits to our athletic donors. Improving the entry points to the game zone. Bringing back a student oriented tailgate on the softball field to build more momentum.
But Game Zone for the win! Thanks Earl!

They did have students having a "tailgate" behind the union in the quad area.....move it in the GameZone area....give em a reason to be excited....

I liked the Game Zone from the onset. I knew it would only be a matter of time before people accepted the change. I was at Morehouse-Spelman Homecoming this past weekend. While it's not on the level of GHOE, I was disappointed that I was able to go on campus, eat, drink, be merry, and NOT SPEND one dime. I didn't attend the game, I parked for free and I was invited to somebody's tailgate. While that was great for MY pocket, Morehouse/Spelman didn't reap one dime from my being there yet the schools were the draw. People spend a lot of money during homecoming (travel, food, etc) and the respective schools get nothing in return if individuals opt out of attending the game. I don't think paying for a game ticket is too much to ask. I've been down with the Game Zone from day one. It keeps the moochers from mooching as hard by increasing the school's revenue.

Man, you have hit it dead on-the-head! Bill Hayes tried to implement the GameZone while I was working with him in FAMU Athletics and he almost got assassinated. I've been down with the GameZone concept from Day One, too, and I'm glad that it's working out at 'Tee!

A lot of folks thought it would hurt game attendance but it didn't. The irony is the only two schools with game zones (A&T / SCSU) finished at the top of the conference in attendance and appear to be headed that way again this season. Of course this could have possibly flopped had we not returned to winning football so kudos to Hilton for perfect timing.

I've been down with Game Zone as well. Its not a party, its a football game. There are still "moochers" on campus but at least they are not near the stadium and they dont really hang around long.
As far as enhancements, I do like the idea of the student tailgate on the softball field side. It would definitely get more butts in the seats. Especially if it shuts down 30 minutes prior to the game like other colleges do with their regular tailgaters. Dont let that idea spill into the alumni tailgaters though. It wouldn't go over well.
I know this is just being picky and requires a lot of money, but the chain link fence around the Game Zone has to start getting replaced soon by something like what NCCU has placed along the Alston Ave side of campus. Chain link is horrible!

i ain't gone lie, i still think the game zone "stinks"! personally, i don't think the game zone has anything to do with our attendance increasing, but "winning" does. i've come to "accept" the game zone cuz i know it ain't going away. but i still think the game zone "stinks"...

It's funny that so many folks on this site "claim" they supposed the fan zone when at the time it was implemented so many folks screamed about it.
I liked it from day one and couldn't understand why real A&T supporters disliked it. I think as our team continues to win the fan zone will make more revenue.

Supported it from day one , now we need to improve where we can . Replacing the chain link fence should be priority one .

I opposed it. Now I'm indifferent.
I've been to one game at A&T since it was implemented. Got too many other expenses to try to take a family of five.
My main opposition was that it seemed to keep out the community. I always felt like A&T should invite the greater Greensboro community. Of course, with that comes safety issues and lost revenue. So it's a win-win or a lose-lose, depending on your perspective.
