wow, mrs. oleschool is a v-state alum. we're both going to the howard game on saturday, would luv to make the 2 hour drive to petersburg the next day but traffic returning to the dc area on sundays is a major "headache". i wish they'd fix i95 from dc to fredricksburg cuz its "always" backed up and i hate it! i always lose time going to aggie games because of that stretch, even on saturday mornings. the problem is that there's a "bottle neck" near fredricksburg where i95 is reduced from 5 lanes to 3 lanes. you "creep" at about 20 mph for about 30 miles until you pass thru fredricksburg and then the traffic picks up to normal speed.
however, the bgmm should be able to blow away those other schools you listed, shouldn't even be close...

Hey oleschool, I have gone home to NC so many times, that my entire family that live above DC AND BEYOND even relatives from NJ-NYC, take 301 ALWAYS to duck 95 South, and re-emter 95 at Bowling Green, now returning to DC and Beyond (different) , 301 backs up prior to Potomac River Bridge, best to stay on 95 especially on a Sunday afternoon, at least the HOV is open from Quantico on into METRO Washington, just thought I would share! AGGIE PRIDE!

Where is Norfolk State? Since NSU and Central band programs took a down turn they are now no-shows at the usual local battle of the bands. Makes you go hmmm.....

Try "route one" after you get pass Mary Washinton university(narrow bridge causes back-up) exit in Federickburg. A little hilly but it moves and you can always jump back on 95 at any time

I know exactly what bottle neck on I85 you're talking about. That spot is a nightmare.

I asked the same question when I saw the battle or the band lineup. Both Norfolk State and NCCU got rid of their band directors before the start of the season. The guy a Norfolk State actually quit! So both programs are rebuilding with a whole new band staff and I guess they don't feel ready for "prime time." It doesn't really matter because the only real band that will perform is the Blue and Gold Marching Machine.

Make a U turn back to the IHop and have some French toast and a pot of coffee. It's not any faster but at least you will not be hungry.

AGGIE PRIDE!thanks bgm, sometimes i take 301 but i hate all of the stop lights especially going thru waldorf. my gps has traffic reporting on it, so if the traffic reports say that the stretch just south of dc is moving at least 50 mph, then i'll take a risk and jump on i95. but if the traffic report says the traffic is moving at or below 40 mph, then i'll take 301. for me its a judgement call, but more times than not, taking i95 screws my trip up. thanks for the tip...

Route 1 (Jeff Davis Hwy) runs parallel to 95 all the way to Alexander Va. I use it when I am coming back from NC(not going to NC) to get around the bottle neck in Federickburg and then get back on 95N near Quantico. It works most of the time

This is my weekly trek. You can take route 1 south until exit 143/garrisonville rd or further down ty exit 136/courthouse rd in Stafford. At one of those spots you can usually jump back on 95s and sort of cruise 20-40 mph till Fredericksburg then of course it opens up. Just be sure not to go too far south in route 1, then you get in that back up to go across the rappahanock, which takes a while. Good luck. See everybody at Greene Saturday.
