So it's time to get ready for Chowan out of the CIAA. This is a great time for this game. We should dominate this game easily while giving our 2's and 3's serious playing time as we get ready for Conference Play.
Now Chowan is 1-1 and is coming off a 47-7 loss against Alderson Broaddus. Alderson Broaddus' QB went 37 of 43 for 467 yards. With that in mind, this should mean our passing game will have a golden opportunity to fine tune things in preparation for Howard, SC State and Hampton.
I fully expect to see Quick throw plenty of passes and further develop a rhythm with Lawrence, Keyes, and the entire passing corps. I also expect to see Klugh and Foster in the Second Half.
Cohen may not be In the game very long but he and our running game will be effective early and often.
Another key item that needs work will be our PK and special teams in general. We should see our kickers get plenty of work too.
What do you all expect to see this week?

What do you all expect to see this week? i concur with everything you stated, wca. normally, most coaches like to have these kind of games to open the season since colleges can't have preseason games or scrimmages with other teams. but you're right, this game against chowan comes at a good time, just before meac play begins. it'll be a good opportunity to give our freshmen and backups some extended game experience and also possibly give some of our players who may be nicked up a bit a chance to heal fully before meac play. i think we may have already gotten most of the kinks out of our offense and defense since we've already played 3 games. but this game is an opportunity to develop our "depth" more which should help if we experience any injuries down the road...

If Cohen is running really good in this game he deserves to stay in at least until he reaches close to his average yards per game. I would like to see him get at least 200 yards rushing. Hell, I like seeing him run every play LOL!!!

It's one thing for the fans to be overconfident but hopefully the team isn't. Overlook no one or no team. Chowan is still a scholarship giving squad that beat Fayetteville State by intercepting the QB 4 times. Sure Alderson passed all over them but we have yet to demonstrate a consistent passing attack.
Ok, I think we should win big and easily but I'm just saying that the team needs to stay focused and get a big lead early. If were only up by 2 tds at the half, the backups won’t see as much playing time.
The coaches have a tough job this week because overconfidence precedes carelessness.

I hope that this is the last year we play these type of teams. We have nothing to gain but bad habits and injuries?

E-X-A-C-T-L-Y!!!i also agree. but i'm one who feels every college team needs at least 1 "cream puff" on the schedule, preferably early in the season because you have no other opportunity to fine tune your offense and defense against someone other than your own guys without jeopardizing the team's ability to win the game. gotta remember, we have "7 new starters" on defense and about 5 new starters on offense. we could've very easily loss our season opener to aa&m had they been a better quality team due to our guys missing assignments in the defensive secondary and what not. that's why every college team needs an early season "cream puff" on their schedule. it ain't about trying to show how tough you are by playing the toughest opponent in sight in every game. just about every college team plays at least 1 cream puff every year. this year unc played liberty, ecu played nccu, duke played elon, and wake played gardner-webb. surely those acc schools and ecu could've picked a "top 25" opponent to play in their season opener, but they went with cream puffs because they needed an opportunity to acclimate their new starters to playing starting roles, give their freshmen and backups "extended" playing time so they won't be "deer in headlights" when thrown to the wolves against higher quality competition later in the season. if it were up to me, i'd have a cream puff on my early schedule every year "unless" i return a powerhouse team that returns 9 or more starters on both sides of the ball and made the playoffs the previous year. under those circumstances, i may be willing to consider bypassing an opening season cream puff...

A&T is free to schedule creampuffs......but if only 6,000-7,000 people are at the game this weekend, don't blame the Aggie faithful for being knowledgable about the teams we play. I have no problem travelling 200+ miles to see us play legitimate competition vs travelling 20 miles to see us play creampuffs. I have a feeling I'm not the only one who shares this sentiment......

I was at the FSU vs Chowan game which was their home opener. FSU had the game won until KR and a turnover gave them them the go ahead score. They are scrappy and have athletes but they are very undiscipline. We definitely should not overlook them, which I believe we will not. Coach B will have the boys prepared to take care of business as usual. In that case, we should get to see some playing time for some of our backups at key positions such as the QB (Klugh & Foster), RB (Cartwright), as well as some of the young guy on the defensive side of the ball. I really want to see what quality we have on depth chart for this game, because we will definitely need these players to have some playing time going into conference play.

All I'm saying is neither he, Hilton or anyone else intricately involved with the football program should expect Aggie Stadium to be 50-75% full this weekend. If they have no problem swallowing the financial loss at the turnstiles and at the concession stands, then this is a non-issue.......

I hope that this is the last year we play these type of teams. We have nothing to gain but bad habits and injuries? I really don't think scheduling 1 of these type of games are bad for the team. Every major college football team either schedules these games as their opener, after a few tough games, or right before conference play which is what the AD & Broadway are doing this year. Yeah, it sucks for the fans who could care less about a weak division 2 opponent, but it is not a setback for the team in terms of gearing up for the start of conference play. You want to build confidence from your backups and have momentum going into conference play. We just came off of playing two quality opponents, where not a lot of the backups received playing time. This game will give them a chance to play.

.....if we're on the borderline for the playoffs and we are measured against another FCS school that doesn't have a DII opponent on its schedule, we can come crying back on the board if that other team gets chosen over us. Now granted, I want us to win the MEAC outright, but if not and an at-large bid is up for grabs, this weak game could play a factor in why we may not get the nod. It's only September, but I'm always thinking ahead about stuff like this.

Its a matter of balancing the program's priorities. Looking ahead also encompasses the development of players. This game should give a lot of #2 and #3 players a lot of snaps. That experience (of depth) will be critical for an effective conference/playoff performance, especially for our young team.

Hilton has given Broadway the freedom to create his own schedule and appears to be willing to pay the price of reduced attendance. When you have a coach with a proven background I think it's best to try and equip him with all the tools he needs to be successful and then just stay out of his way.
