Let me preface this by saying I love the BGMM and feel there is none better however, there has to be more of an effort to stop playing when we have the ball. Tonight on a critical series the team tried to get the band to stop playing but it appeared to fall on deaf ears. I recall this happened in last seasons Atlanta Classic as well. Perhaps there needs to be a meeting between the football staff and band staff to discuss how we can properly support each other?

I agree Decks. I love the band! Marched in it for 4 years! All we have to do is assign one person (gold jacket) to do nothing but watch the game and give a red light or green light.

I agree. I love the band as well but they really need to kill the playing when the ball is in play and not just when we have possession. They are going to get the team flagged at some point in the not too distant future if that sort of foolishness continues.

It would be cool if the Machine played four measures of Neck, Smash Somethin, or another crowd favorite after each first down. That way they can play all throughout the game and keep the crowd hype.

How often has this been discussed? Much like taxes, it will always be with us.... Isn't that right MB69?

Can't put it on the Machine this year guys... lol The assistant director has a headset now (much like how we do at the big classics) and they cue us when we can play. We never played a note without clearance from those headsets yesterday... I was on the track and saw it. Im keeping it real though, while it worked yesterday, from a band perspective, its going to be harder to stay in line when another band is there. We follow rules until we see the other band blowing over the game and we are just sitting there... we are going to play back. Sorry (I know that sounds bad...but again, just being honest) I think this band and team (and the staffs) have a good relationship and if Coach comes our way, we know the deal. He is from "bigger ball" and has told us himself that he sound is not as much of a bother to him/them as it is to some fans. We can continue the "will the band stop playing" discussion...I've been affiliated with the A&T Band for 17 years...I doubt it will happen. But it makes a good annual thread. LOL

Earl Hilton can stop this anytime he wants to. All that needs to happen if for some prominent alum to have a serious conservation with Hilton and we will have a new band playing policy immediately

I happen to be sitting next to the band during the second half and there we places I though the band would stop playing or at least play softer. I didn't realize that they are now getting told when to play from the booth. I know Dr. Ruff well enough to know that if the coaches wanted the band to stop playing at a certain point in the game he would make sure it happened.

I saw players on the field and sidelines motioning for the band to bring it down one time, but no one saw them.

Just for clarification, and going off of the Alabama A&M game, sound is apparently only a problem when the team is losing... We'll adjust accordingly based on that particular factor...

The band just needs to incorporate some shorter, situational music.
When you are playing loud, full songs when the offense is trying to pick up a crucial conversion it just makes it seems that the band is not even concerned with the action on the field.
The band should be an asset for the football team when the game is going on; not just a separate entity that's only concerned with itself.

It's a good thing we limit our attendance to 5-6000 fans per game. Imagine the mayhem if we ever had 100,000 screaming fans like those big schools do...

I sat on the 50 on the home side. At several points in the game, I wondered why the band wasn't playing, especially after converting on 3rd down. I thought the crowd/band was too dang quiet on many instances and didn't pose any issues for the opposition. I wish the band had a hype song like Let's Go Wildcats. With all the creativity and great arrangements, I know the BGMM can do better in that department. Maybe if the fans would learn War, that chant can go on without music while the ball is in play. Our crowd is dead as L at times.
