I encourage everyone to post your thoughts...... First of......WE OFFICIALLY BELONG IN THE FCS.....
With that being said: 1) Special teams is what separates good teams from great teams. You absolutely have to be sound in all 3 phases of the game if you want to be among the best. ----missed FG (after a 5-yd penalty) ----missed extra point (if you didn't have your regular snapper out, call a timeout) ----a punt return for a TD negated by holding ----a kickoff return by Coastal for a TD You maybe can get through the MEAC with so-so special teams play. If we wanna be FCS legit, our special teams has to be up to snuff
2) Quick is not a passing QB. The offensive coordinator has to accept it. Quick has to accept it. The team has to accept it. ------he overthrew 2 WRs that could have either been TDs or 50+ yard plays ------we had the ball 1st and goal. THE OC CALLED 3 STRAIGHT PASS PLAYS.....needless to say, we ended with 3 instead of 6.
3) I knew Broadway would have our team ready to play. We were ready to play them the last 2 times we went up against them.....we just didn't have the horses.....WE DO NOW. What Broadway has gotta to do for me is seize the moment. We had the ball 4th down on their side of the field with 4+ minutes left. He punted away the ball......they iced the clock to seal the win. When you play teams like Coastal and you want to win, you have to be the aggressor. When we punted the ball away, it left a taste in my mouth that he was satisfied losing by one point instead of going for the win (that's my personal belief). When you play teams as solid as CCU, you have to seize every opportunity you get. His mentality was not to lose instead of to win.....EVEN THOUGH WE WERE DOWN BY A POINT....
I knew this game was going to be close. I really thought we were going to win. As I've said earlier....WE BELONG.....no more moral victories though. Aggie Nation now knows we're at the door. It's time to knock the damn door down. No more knocking on the door. No more ringing the door bell. IT'S TIME OUR SQUAD KICK THE FCS DOOR DOWN. No more wait til next year - the time is now.

I fell ya Naborhood...we are fine for the 2nd game of the season. We can correct the errors. The month of October will tell the story. We are in the conversation now...we weren't before. I'm very encouraged.

Good point. If Quick's helmet doesn't come off on the last TD for us, we hit that XP. All in all, we cut the mistakes to a min and we will beat SC state, go undefeated in the conference, win 11 games and make the playoffs. It's scary to think how good this team will be in a few years.
Also, I think we threw the ball way too much. There were two drives in the second qtr where we went away from our running game and killed our first half momentum.

CCU's defense was dog-tired at the end of that game. We let them off the hook by not running the ball down their throats and punting on 4th down. Those dudes were gassed. I've never seen so many official timeouts in my life....they were dropping like flies.
WE LET THEM OFF THE HOOK.....NO MORE MORAL VICTORIES....WE BELONG.....

Nabor, you are dead on. We literarily gave that game away. However, I'm still encouraged that we have a friggin TEAM. My wife tried to pacify my pissivity with the "it was close crap" but my words exactly were that we're not looking for moral victories. It's time to kick azz. I hope like hell we see them in the post season. Will feel better if SCSU kicks them to sleep. Oh well, on to elon?

I thorougt the strategy to pass first, and pass second was a good one considering CCU dared Quick to pass in the first quarter. They had 8-9 players within 3 yards of the line of scrimage. I am not a football guru , but we were forced to pas pass pass. I just think Quick should have ran more out of the pas formation in the 4th quarter. if this offense is for Quick then the poor passing and unbelievable runs is what we will have to line with. Also, Ithink we have good FCS talent but my observation is that CCU had better QB play and just maybe 4-5 athletes that were just superrior to our talent (strength, size and body mass...they ran through our players on occasion). We belong but we must put the nail in the coffin or knock the door down as naborhoodsuperstar says. I'm just not happy with playing them close. This was a lost opportunity to upset the FCS status quo. I'm ready for an unpredictable MEAC which we have to be the favorite now.

I'm just getting back to Charlotte from the game.....I'll admit I was PISSED BUT very very very encouraged. While SOME of the play calling left much to be desired because it went against our personnel's strengths and what was working, I didn't see anything out there tonight that can't be easily fixed. I HATE losing and not really that moral victory type but I'm starting to cool off and actually feel pretty good overall with what I saw with the team.
I tip my hat off to the team as when we went down 17-7 they didn't fold but kept at it and made for one hell of a game. Very proud of this squad and it can truly be a special season. We just have to continue to improve weekly use this loss as a stepping stone and keep moving forward.
NOW my VERY VERY VERY out of left field random rant. Folk as FANS can we be just a TAD bit more into the game meaning peal that super glue off the bottom of those pants and stand up and make some REAL noise. I remember times the players were asking the fans to stand and make some noise and you'd think someone would have to throw a stink bomb up in the stands to get folk rowdy....(Just my random rant pet peeve) sorry for getting off topic.

We still have the MEAC crown to look forward to but I could not understand game management and choices made when we had the ball on their 40 yrd line with 3 1/2 minutes to go and it was 4th and 10. They got over 450 yrds in the air and on the ground. I like our chances in going for it in that situation. What makes Broadway think we can stop them after we punted? Also, Broadway did not use his time outs wisely after CCU got the ball. I know he is a conservative coach but DAYUM.......At any rate, I think the team now realizes that we can hang against the majority of teams in the FCS.

Agree with naborhoodsuperstar and would add...
1. Too many false start penalties (seems to be a carryover from last year) 2. Quick much improved in throwing the ball out of bounds when he gets in trouble, except for the one INT (saw that coming a mile away). 3. Defense on the field too long 4. I think the guys really pulled it together when things looked dismal before the half. 5. Seems like we can't cover big kickoffs and punts. 6. Need to finish tackles.
The team is still young, and while it was a tough loss, we all have a taste of a bright future.

Broadway always coaches scared late in games. I remember last year when he opted to forgo a 25 yard field goal in the fourth quarter against App State because he was afraid the kick might get blocked. That chip shot could have sealed the game but instead App drove down the field for a TD, recovered the onside kick and almost kicked a last second FG to steal the game.
That being said, we would never even be in this position tonight if not for the masterful job Broadway has done with rebuilding our program.
You just gotta take the good with his few shortcomings at this point and hopes he has a Ron Rivera type of epiphany before his career is over. Dude needs to become Riverboat Rod instead of Nervous Pervis.

The team performed better than expected but still a heartbreaking loss.
*Quick has happy feet. He has to learn to stand tall in the pocket and be more decisive. We may have to look at bringing someone else in for obvious passing situations. It's a shame that Denzel Keyes was our best passer tonight.
*The defense gave up 480 yards but gave us a chance to compete with creating 5 turnovers.
*Why o why did we go away from the read option late in the game when we clearly had them on their heels trying to defend it?
*Receivers made some key drops. We have got to figure a way to get the ball to Des Lawrence in space.
*Discipline, discipline & more discipline. To may penalties, defense being caught not lined up, special team miscues. Gotta get it fixed.

I wouldn't be surprised if you see us go for two on XP's if something ever happens to Quick OR if we see Foster or Klugh begin to handle the XP snap and hold.
