tomorrow marks the first day of july. ah, yes! i'm beginning to smell the sweet aroma of freshly cut grass. football must be near! nfl training camps start to open in the month of july. so college camps can't be too far behind. so i gotta ask. what will version 2.0 of tarik cohen look like this year? will ncaa d1 track all american, dez lawrence, have a breakout season? who will get the starting nod at quarterback this year? and what about the bluedeath defense? can bluedeath continue to top the meac in rushing defense seemingly every season? and the biggest question for this upcoming season is? drum roll please!! will coach broadway win his first ever meac championship this year? our guys are now "winning" in the classroom! apr was outstanding for last season! now we need that meac championship! well guys and gals, its count down to kickoff time!! oleschool already has his season tics in hand, atlanta football classic club seats reserved, ghoe hotel long been booked, and i'm going down the schedule right now to see how many aggie games i won't be at because i plan to go to at least 8 of the aggies 12 football games this season. approximately 60 days before kickoff in orlando, but only 30 days before preseason camp opens! won't be long now before bdv gets it all cranked up again in the football forum for another exciting aggie football season! been quiet around here lately, but that's gonna change in about 30 days and counting...

Getting back to what OSA was talking about, I am also ready and anxiously anticipating the upcoming football season. Their is so much to look forward to in AGGIE football: How many yards will T. Cohen rush for? how will the Fr. RB from High Point perform if given a chance? who will be the starting QB or the most productive QB? will our speed at WR show it's face this year? how will our DB's perform? how will our overall defense perform this year? will they be as good or better than last year? oh, and how big will the band be this year and much better will they sound and perform? These are all things that I will ponder from now until the season get started.

The biggest question this year for our football team is a carry over from last year...do we have a skilled QB that can effectively run our offense? Our offense limped through the entire 2013 season because of our challenges at the quarterback position. That's what I will be looking at in our first two games...do we have a skilled QB or just another "place holder" until next season? I'll worry about the receivers and running backs later. If we want to win the MEAC and have a shot at a playoff win, we have got to do better at the QB position this year.

"Oh, and how big will the band be this year and much better will they sound and perform?" I doubt if the band will get much bigger than it has been in the past two years. The size of A&T's band is impacted more by the band's budget than anything else. To get a band the size of Bethune Cookman, Southern, or Jackson State, you need a 1st class band facilities, scholarships, and money for travel, uniforms and instruments. Currently A&T's band room consists of a rundown warehouse located behind Bojangles, a declining number of "partial band scholarships" and very little money in the band budget for the rest. We really cannot afford to get much bigger.
Regardless of the budget, Dr. Ruff and his staff will manage to put a quality band on the field every week. We may be poor but we are proud and that can take you a long way.

I wish the Ad. Min. would do more in terms of funding the band, practice facilities and practice field. The band is right THERE in terms of being one of those bands that gets the recognition it deserves in the HBCU Band World. Yet our BAND's budget is smaller than a lot of the unknown lesser bands in the MEAC Conference! Last year was one of the best years for the Machine that I can remember! Folks still talk about that Honda Show! I still watch it. There is no turning back! Onward and Upwards for the BGMM! Hey Ad. Min. are you listening?

hey, in past years i often complained about a&t doing things on the cheap so much. but now, seeing what famu and scsu are going thru, doing things on the cheap may have preserved our fiscal standing. i’m not advocating that we do things on the cheap, but at least (to the best of my knowledge) we’re not running up the kind of deficits that scsu and famu currently are.
nonetheless, getting back to football, i’m really very concerned with our qb position. having seen foster (the juco transfer) with my very own eyes at the spring game, it clearly appeared to me that quick is further ahead at running the offense than foster was “at that time”. i don’t know where the 2 qb’s stand as of today. but it didn’t appear to me that foster is gonna be an “instant success” just yet.
knowing very little about the qb competition as of today, i’m leaning toward quick starting the season as our starter unless foster or klough steps up big time during training camp. clearly the qb competition is my #1 concern going into camp. i think over time, foster will adjust to fcs level football. but from what i saw during the spring game, i think the starting job (based on the spring game) is quick’s job to lose.
oh, and by the way! i’m campaigning to move dez lawrence to the running back position! we’ve got to put the ball in his hands a lot more often than we did last season. he played rb in high school, so its not a new position for him to learn. i can see why the coaches want his “speed” at the wr position as a deep threat. but he needs more touches than he’s getting at wr.
bigboy is right though. this could be the most exciting season we've seen in greensboro since the bill hayes days. we're going into coach broadway's 4th season in aggieland. this will be his 3rd official recruiting class since he's been here. this program is now coach broadway's program! meaning, most of the previous regime's recruits have graduated and "pretty much" all of the guys we have now are coach broadway's recruits. so "in my eyes", this is the first year that it feels like this year's team was totally built by coach broadway...
