I assume that the ncaa will closely scrutinize the drug testing of the players. They probably assume that teammates were aware of Clark's business and may have been customers. If these teammates were aware of his illegal business, they should have brought it to the attention of the university. Persons that enter into the drug business have one foot in the jailhouse and one foot in the grave. There is a long history of that in this community as well as many others.
I believe that players go through an orientation process where this kind of behavior is discussed. Students come as young adults and demand that they are treated as such. This was an embarassing tragedy for the university, who was not at fault and can not be blamed for the indiscretion of one student. However, front page headlines with the letters A&T prominently plastered on the front page for more than three days, gives the university a negative image which is not deserved. The cornerstone of any good university is its' reputation. It must be protected and preserved by the administration, faculty, staff and students. It's a sacred trust for all to protect.
That 80s defensive back was from Florida. He got a big sentence for his crime.

"they should have brought it to the attention of the university......" Do you think the culture/values of young people today (probably in your day as well)would have seen or see that as a viable alternative? What was that "don't be a snitch" uproar a few years ago about? Repoting crime in your own neighbor was viewed as anti-black or something you should not do...college students wore shirts saying it....

You are right, but that does not mean that someone should not have spoken up. We see this in these mass murders. People notice or see things but don't involve themselves. Had they done so as the woman did in Minn., perhaps lives could have been saved and in this case including Clark's. Hopefully, this cultural attitude will change.

This discussion is typical of the state of country in which we live. When something goes wrong, somebody has to pay. Let's begin with individual accountablity and responsibility first. Once you are accountable and responsible for self then, you can participate in being accountable and responsible for the whole. It's an unfortunate set of circumstances and it breaks my heart on so many levels. But, at the end of the day, this young man made a poor choice. Poor choices come with consequences whether intentional or unintentional. I find myself in debate and confrontation with my son over the choices he makes for himself. At some point as a parent you have to turn them aloose and remain prayerful and hope thet get it right. So, I can only imagine the heartache of the parents of this young man, to have endure this pain over a poor choice. But, at the end of the day, the choice was his.

This is all about Choices. Both the shoots and the victim made poor choices. Now how do we change the mind set ?

i would think the guy probably had teammates who knew he dealt drugs, but that doesn't mean the entire team knew or even the majority of them knew. usually guys who deal drugs are very selective about who they conceal their activities to. there was probably only a hand full of guys on the team who knew, at least that's my guess.
these kind of things are often difficult to sniff out. guys don't tell the entire world that they're selling drugs, usually only guys within their immediate circle know and most of them probably comply with the imaginary "no snitch" policy...

Realistically speaking, kids now in this day and age don't view selling a nickle or dime bag as anything alarming or to snitch over. If anything it is the social norm. A lot of you all are talking as if this man was straight pushing some serious weight through campus lol. He loss his life over a small quantity. The outcome from the young mans bad decisions suck point blank. To put fear in students about the drug issue, unfortunately it's going to have to take more examples like this very one.
You now have states legalizing marijuana use, every song you can think of talks about using it, it's all over tv and we're suppose to come up with something to beat out all of that? Seems like your only option is random drug testing throughout the year or more instances of what just happened.

Random testing is already in place year round for players. It is up to the schools to use them. We test players in the off season and in season. Again its up to the schools to use the testing.

I guess I must be a coward too because I'm with you guys...I love my freedom too much to do something this stupid. And it's not just the young brothers...what about Patrick Cannon (Charlotte's Mayor) and the lady in the A&T Foundation that embezzled $400,000? Their lives are ruined and for what?

True, there lives are ruined but everyone does not get caught. People get away with bad choices that could ruin their lives every day from driving drunk to stealing $$$ to buying/selling drugs
