Boy you know it's a dead sports period when we spend 6 pages debating whether we should install artificial turf. Does anyone have any A&T sports news we can discuss? Is bowling season over? What's the baseball team doing? Did they varnish the basketball courts in Corbett gym in the off-season? There's got to be something sports worth better than turf.

One major point folks are overlooking in this discussion. The football field has nothing to do with the School of Agriculture. The field is maintained by the University's Maintenance Department and Grounds Keepers who maintain the general campus.
Now if you want the School of Agriculture to come up with a plan or prescription for late fall green grass then that's a different story but to be clear, this one thing doesn't have anything to do with the other at present.

Aggieone, you sound like an Ag Lawyer! You are making the case for not blaming the School of Agriculture for that crappy brown stuff we play on in late October. Thank you for clarifying it for us uninformed. By the way, if the field "was" turned over to the School of Agriculture, would our field look better late in the season? Don't mean to put you on the spot but will it?

If the School of Ag did currently maintain the field it would be obvious. I believe someone mentioned the division earlier.

There are no sure things in life but given past performances, the answer would lead me to the conclusion that it most likely would be better in late November. I think at this juncture in our program development, it would not be cost efficient or a wise use of available revenue. Not right now.

I'm advocating aggressively seeking out other people's money not our own, similar to what was done for the skybox, the track, and the lights.

GIFSoupI blame OleSchool for not adding a voting option to this thread. lol, like 1969 said, its a slow time of the sports year and there's not a lot of aggie sports to talk about. actually, i think its good to get the viewpoint of a lot of people on this subject. don't know if there's a verdict, but clearly we've identified the pluses and minuses of synthetic turf. just something to think about for aggie stadium. i use to be 100% for natural grass, but i've since changed my mind. i'm now a proponent of synthetic turf, especially for football practice throughout the season. however, i would be perfectly happy with natural grass if we could just keep it green and healthy for the entire season...

JUST A SIDE-NOTE HERE...
I was a student-athlete at South Carolina State before transferring to A&T in January of 1978. The football field at Bulldog Stadium stayed beautifully-green all season long... because they painted it at least once a month. (That was a Willie Jeffries innovation...helped in recruiting.)

In case anyone cares, installation on the new field still hasn't begun. The city of Hampton still has not signed off on the permit to allow construction to begin

My high school in Pittsburgh has had various artificial turf since my junior year there (1974). They have the newest turf right now.
