Field turf is better on several fronts: 1. It's more durable when there's adverse whether the natural turfs tends give and make holes in the surface; 2. I'm sure it's more economical over the long run than the up-keep of a natural surface and 3. Like some have said, field turf just looks better in most situations. A natural surface looks great in clear skies and temps in the 70's but, we all know that every Saturday in the fall is not that way. So, I'm not opposed to moving to field turf, if we can afford it. If not, grass it is.

But that's a sizable water bill. By comparison, it takes 4 million gallons of water a year to keep UNC's Kenan Stadium green. unc.edu/campus-updates/reclaimed-water-to-keep-kenan-field-green/

Is this something the AAF can help fund? i think so depending on what else is on their agenda. but they could probably raise enough funds for synthetic turf over the course of a couple of years or so. i'm thinking 2 years, 3 years max...

Someone should bring it up to our AD and see if this is something that is feasible for our dept at this time. I think we can raise he funds for purchase and installation in a 2 - 3 year timeline. We can also sell naming rights of the field to cover costs.

Turf is a no brainer for several reasons
Cost - Yeah, its a huge up front cost, but it pays for itself the longer its been installed. Revenue - Aggie stadium can now be rented for SEVERAL different events like soccer, lacrosse, sports camps, etc without worrying about messing the field up. Because it has some(though small) parking right up to the stadium its perfect for youth sporting events. Recruiting - Damn you old guys. Kids want to see some turf. They thinks its cool. Their parents think its cool. Appearance - It's looks good YEAR ROUND, no matter the weather Injury on synthetic grass isn't an issue anymore.
If everyone else has it I know we can afford it. If high schools can afford it then so can we. That cost crap is just that...crap. Especially when you factor in the revenue I mentioned above. We should have done it several years ago. NCCU has 2 synthetic grass fields (One inside track as well). They constantly rent them out to soccer, other football like Pop Warner, lacrosse, etc. The "tin can" looks like sheeet, but whenever we play there all my parents comment on how nice the field is, and remember that half my team is white.

Earl will tell you that AAF funds are used for athletic scholarships exclusively. Now we might get one in the near future now that Earl and Jennifer have got the fundraising and marketing programs on track and now bringing in real dollars.

I agree with you AM. We need field turf not later but now. The only problem I see is that me get the right company to install it. If we are going too do this get the best. We can not half step on this.

With budget reductions lingering, I don't see this happening or being considered for a while.

Someone over in the Agricultural Dept , should be working on keeping this Grass Plush and Beautiful as well as grounds crew !!

How would turf effect the field events during track meets?

I was thinking about that with certain field events like the javelin.
