Folks have asked if we fired Eaves, is there anyway else out there. I laugh out loud. Here are 13 people I wouldn't have a problem with being our next head basketball coach......
1) Chris Caputo - top asst coach at George Mason; involved in recruiting and preparation for next opponent
2) Jim Corrigan - top asst at ODU. Has roots in Triad area, including being head coach at Bishop McGuinness head coach, and had the schools as one of the top high schools in NC. Has a son at Duke
3) Lonnie Blow - another ODU asst; former St Aug coach who had the Falcons at 46-15 as 2 years as head coach
4) Dennis Felton - former WKU and UGa head coach. His resume speaks for itself
5) Steve Robinson - asst coach at UNC. Former head coach at Florida State and Tulsa. Top recruiter at UNC. Folks may consider this a reach, but he may be at the age where he wants one last shot as a head coach.
6) Keith Booth - 7-year asst coach at Maryland; top recruiter.
7) Kenya Hunter - asst coach at Georgetown. Also has been at Duquesne and NC State. His wife is from Durham.
8) Todd Bozeman - If we cannot beat him, have him come into the fold. Ask what Morgan is paying him --- and pay more.
9) Al Skinner - Former Boston College coach. An excellent recruiter. I really believe he got caught in the crossfire in the transition from the Big East to the ACC.
10) Dino Gaudio - Former Wake Forest basketball Caoch. Helluva recruiter. Got the shaft at Wake.
11) Bobby Lutz - Former Coach at Charlotte. Built the program back up to respectability after the program was down for a while.
12) Jeff Capel - Laugh all you want, but when he was our coach for one year in 93, we were a very well-coached team. Word is, he's looking for another gig. We don't have to worry about him wearing any Duke hats on TV as his kids are too old to be on another DI team.
13) Steve Merfeld - We all remember his amazing exploits at Hampton. What makes anyone think he cannot do it again??
All 13 choices are sensible selections. Could some of them ask for more than what we may be willing to pay? Maybe - maybe not. There is no guarantee ANY OF THESE COACHES will be a head coach at another school in the next few years. Being a head DI coach ain't that easy. The economy is bad. Coaches need paying coaching gigs. WE SHOULD NOT UNDERESTIMATE OURSELVES!!!
Eaves has had EIGHT YEARS to prove his worth. He has failed. I know A&T isn't aggressive enough to fire his a$$ after this year ( ).....but when next year rolls around and we're stinking it up with no Coleman in the paint------REMEMBER THESE NAMES.
If all (or most) of us know that Eaves doesn't have what it takes to win big, WE HAVE TO BE THINKING 2 STEPS AHEAD. THAT TIME IS NOW!
