Didn't we already lose Aggiefest in the early 90s?

From what little I know about SGA:
The concert is not something that is put together overnight. The SGA works all summer to bring these acts. There are HC meetings all summer long and the concert is one of the biggest portions of the meetings. The proposed line-up and headliners are tossed around all summer...
Also....
The contract between the university and DLC is signed by who? The SGA President. This usually happens around late June to early August.
If your name is on the contract and you knew about the possibility of a gang affiliated artist coming, then what am i really doing by issuing a statement two months after the announcement was made?
No real opinion. It speaks for itself.

from spr 05 through spr 08, when I was a student, there were always "Aggiefest" type events on campus. I was just never as elaborate as it was in the 90's due to Greensboro being Greensboro.

BTW:
http://www.news-record.com/content/2009/....against_rappe r Court dismisses officers' suit against rapper Tuesday, October 20, 2009 Staff Reports
RALEIGH — The N.C. Court of Appeals has dismissed an appeal by five Greensboro police officers in their defamation case against a rapper.
Five police officers involved in the 2005 arrest of Jayceon “The Game “ Taylor filed a defamation suit in 2006 in which they claimed they were libeled and slandered and had their images misappropriated by the rapper and several of his business associates.
The officers had asked the appeals court to review portions of their case that had been dismissed in August 2008 by Judge Richard Stone in Guilford County Superior Court, claiming that the dismissals could cause inconsistent verdicts.
“Although the facts involved in the claims remaining before the trial court may overlap with the facts involved in the claims that have been dismissed, plaintiffs have failed to show that they will be prejudiced by the possibility of inconsistent verdicts in two separate proceedings,” the appeals court ruled today. “Accordingly, plaintiffs have failed to establish that a substantial right will be lost unless the trial court’s order is immediately reviewed.”
The officers — Hien Nguyen, Matthew Brown, Ryan Childrey, Romaine Watkins and David Gregory — were involved in arresting Taylor at Four Seasons Town Centre a few hours before he was to perform at a concert in Winston-Salem. Mall security had asked Taylor and his entourage to leave the mall for videotaping and creating a disturbance. The off-duty police officers were called in to help.
The officers sued after Taylor posted a video on YouTube and because of his characterization of the arrest in the marketing of his DVD “Stop Snitching/Stop Lying.”

Angelou, Temptations Review to highlight A&T homecoming Wednesday, October 28, 2009 By Joe Killian Staff Writer
GREENSBORO — N.C. A&T may have pulled out of its annual concert at the Greensboro Coliseum , but homecoming will be alive and well on campus this weekend.
The school is banking on guests like poet Maya Angelou and R&B group The Temptations Review as officials begin to re-brand homecoming as more about the school and less about the party.
Earlier this month, A&T students began to complain about one of the headlining acts at the homecoming concert — a gang-affiliated rapper called Gucci Mane . Because of lyrics that glorify gangs, drugs and violence, many felt the rapper’s message was at odds with the mission of the university.
Chancellor Harold Martin made the decision to pull A&T’s name and financial support from the concert. Praising the students who spoke out on the issue, Martin said he wanted the homecoming celebration — which draws thousands to the city every year — to be a better reflection of the school and its values.

Gucci Mane Scraps A&T Concert Over Legal Issues
By Roman Wolfe
A controversial concert featuring Atlanta-based rapper Gucci Mane at North Carolina A&T was scrapped on Saturday (October 31), because the rapper is on house arrest.
Gucci Mane was forced to back out of the concert at Greensboro Coliseum because of a recent parole violation.
Due to the violation, Gucci Mane is prohibited from traveling outside of Georgia, unless he receives permission from the court.
News of the rapper’s appearance caused division amongst students at A&T and the university eventually dropped all official support for the concert due to Gucci Mane’s controversial image.
Over 11,000 tickets were sold to the concert, which went off without a hitch and featured rappers Fabolous, Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj, OJ Da Juiceman, Keri Hilson, Mario and others.
Gucci Mane was also forced to cancel a controversial appearance at Florida A&M’s homecoming on October 24, due to the probation violation.

For those that did not attend the Temptation show or hear about it, the "Temps" were off the chain. They were so much better than I anticipated them to be and the crowd enjoyed every moment of the show. The place was packed and they had plenty of good food (buffet). Other than the game, every other event was great.
